GOLDEN, Colo. -
Colorado School of Mines saw round one of The Writz at Mile High halted by darkness Sunday, but not before their season debut had strong performances up and down the lineup.

With five of the six golfers in the scoring lineup finished, the Orediggers are +4 to sit in fifth place. West Texas A&M is the only under-par team at -6 with Colorado Christian even par and Cameron (+2) and UCCS (+3) rounding out a crowded top of the team leaderboard.

Freshman Max Lange, playing as an individual, turned in Mines' round of the day with a three-under 69 in his collegiate debut. Lange started with a birdie on his opening hole and never relented, going out one-under and coming back in with a two-under 34 to sit in a tie for fifth, one shot off the lead.

In the scoring lineup, Ethan Adam matched his career-best round with a one-under 71 (T11), and freshman Carter Lolli had an even-par collegiate debut recovering from a +4 start to fire four birdies over his final 11 holes to finish even at 72 (T22). Owen Cornmesser beat the darkness with a birdie on his final hole to finish at a one-over 73 (T27), Lukas Taggart shot a 76 (+4, T48), and Connor Downey is currently Mines' non-scorer with a 79 (+7, T60). Jake Welch is at even par with the 18th to play, going three-under in his last 10 holes, and will finish up before Tuesday's second round starts.

Playing as individuals, Theodore Reitter had a solid day with a 74 (+2, T30), and Jonathan Trigg shot 76 (+4, T48) in his Mines debut.

Four golfers are tied for the individual lead at -4: Nicholas Krantz (Fort Lewis), Luis Palomo (West Texas A&M), Peter Grossenbacher (Colorado Mesa), and Kolton Baber (West Texas A&M). With perfect conditions at the notoriously difficult Bear Creek, an uncharacteristic 21 golfers finished under par on Sunday.

The second round tees off at 9 a.m. Monday.
