UCCS Mountain Lions Open Results

Colorado School of Mines track & field split ways on Saturday and found plenty of success no matter where they were, as a selection of women's runners competed at Boston University's Terrier Classic while the field athletes were at UCCS' Colorado Running Company Mountain Lion Open.

IN BOSTON
The Orediggers' trip to Boston produced a pair of NCAA qualifying times and a new program record for the women's 4x400 relay. Randi Higashi, Grace Galvin, Aryelle Wright, and Amena Nelson put together a 3:49.57 time to take third overall in a largely D-I field, smashing the program record of 3:53.15 set last winter at Washburn. Led by a blazing 56.48 split from Wright on the third leg, the relay set an NCAA provisional time and is the fastest in the RMAC this season.

Mines also competed in the open 400m and 800m races and got some big results there, as well. Mackenzie Duck's 2:12.67 800m time was a season best and just a tenth off her collegiate best, and gives her an NCAA provisional mark in the event; Wright ran 2:13.47 as well. In the 400m, Amena Nelson ran a career indoor-best 58.37 for 23rd, with Higashi's 58.58 good for 26th and Galbin's 58.61 28th. Nelson's time moves her up to sixth on the all-time Mines top-10.

IN COLORADO SPRINGS
It was another outstanding day for the Mines field athletes at UCCS as they garnered a trio of event wins and numerous personal bests on Saturday.

As it has been all winter, Mines owned both the men's and women's pole vaults as the Orediggers swept the top five spots in each event. Hunter Potrykus cleared 4.75m to win the men's vault, with Noah Kelly and Shane Conley each making 4.65m for second and third and Jackson Wray and Aidan Bennett 4.35m for fourth and fifth, respectively.

The women also owned the top five spots and six of the top eight led by Hannah Miller, who won clearing 3.97m, and made three attempts at a would-be program record of 4.11m. Avery Herbold was second getting over 3.77m, with Ava Kowalski's 3.67m third, Dale Thompson fourth at 3.52m, Gabbi Varela fifth at 3.52m (a new indoor PR), and Lauren Kelly eighth at 3.37m.

Grant Redmond cleared the 2.07m bar to win the men's high jump, while Lexye Wood was the top collegian in the women's event taking second overall at 1.66m, matching her season best. She led a good day for Oredigger women in the event as Claire Kintzley, Avery Wright, and Abbi Gillespie all got over 1.56m for fourth through sixth, respectively.

Brody Welch had a big day in the shot put to take second after a top mark of 15.38m, his collegiate best by more than half a meter. Arvid Veidmark IV was third at 15.35, and Hayden Swim seventh (14.29m) with Davin Kiesby 14th (11.77m). In the weight throw, it was Veidmark leading the way in a fifth-place 16.64m, and Kiesby was sixth at 15.69m. Welch placed eighth at 14.69m and Swim 11th at 14.14m. Kitt Rupar took fourth in the women's weight throw hitting 13.84m and was also fourth in the shot put at 12.04m.

In the women's long jump, Sidney Walshaw's 5.38m jump was good for fifth, and Avery Wright was eighth at 4.95m. Walshaw's mark was a nearly quarter-meter improvement on her previous best and puts her into the Mines all-time top-10 at seventh.
