COLORADO SPRINGS - Dillon Powell's indoor season debut saw him pick up where he left off in cross country, and his performance has earned him the RMAC Track Athlete of the Week award.
Competing for the first time since winning the NCAA cross country championship in early December, Powell turned to a distance he had never run in college: the mile. Facing an elite field at the Colorado Invitational, Powell's first shot at the event ran the NCAA's #2 mile time of the winter at 4:05.64 (3:59.64 converted), placing second in the Invitational Mile behind a three-time D-I all-American. It is the RMAC's #1 raw time and #2 converted time of the season.
The honor marks Powell's seventh career weekly award from the RMAC between track and cross country.
The Orediggers will host the Mines Winter Classic & Multi this weekend at Steinhauer Fieldhouse with the two-day meet starting Friday.
