DENVER, Colo. – The Colorado School of Mines Men's and Women's Cross Country teams capped another historic RMAC Championships on Saturday at Washington Park with the Oredigger men winning their fifth straight team crown while the women brought home team silver.
 
Saturday also marked the men's seventh title in the last eight years as the Orediggers totaled 32 points compared to 59 points for RMAC runner-up Adams State. The day was historic for the women as well after they totaled 56 team points marking their lowest team score since at least 2012. The Oredigger women were just 24 points behind first-place team Adams State. Duncan Fuehne was the top runner for the men in third place. Holly Moser led the women in fourth place. Overall, seven men and five women earned All-RMAC distinction by finishing 28th or better individually. Mines Head Coach Chris Siemers was voted RMAC Coach of the Year for the Men.
 
WOMEN'S RACE
The women's 6,000-meter, championship race started the day under sunny skies with temperatures rising. Individually, the result was virtually a foregone conclusion in the early going as Adams State's Brianna Robles paced the field for a majority of the race. However, the team race was spicy from start to finish with two squads racing well together. As racers charged down the stretch across the finish line, the story began to unfold.
 
With eight runners over the finish, Mines and Adams State both had three runners scoring. Robles paced ASU with her first-place finish and RMAC Runner of the Year distinction. For the Orediggers, it was Holly Moser (21:04.4) in fourth place, Jenna Ramsey-Rutledge (21:16.2) in seventh, and Grace Strongman (21:28.7) in eighth. However, the Grizzlies had their last two scoring runners across the finish before Mines could get another. Even so, Clare Peters took 14th in 21:36.4 and RMAC Summit Award winner Margaux Basart took 23rd in 22:04.0 to give all five Oredigger scorers All-RMAC distinction.
 
Rounding out the field for Mines' women were Josie Mejia (22:42.2) at #34, Ashleigh Loe (22:57.2) in 42nd, and Callen Nash (23:00.7) taking 46th. Riley McGrath started the race but was unable to finish. Thanks to their top-14 finishes, Moser, Ramsey-Rutledge, Strongman, and Peters earned First-Team All-RMAC status. Basart added Second-Team All-RMAC to her hardware collection.
 
MEN'S RACE
With seven nationally-ranked teams in the women's race, and eight nationally-ranked teams in the men's race, it was difficult to decide the most anticipated or exciting event of the day. Either way, the men's 8,000-meter championship run did not disappoint. While there was more of a battle in the individual race, New Mexico Highland's Andrew Amor prevailed with dominance to win gold and claim RMAC Runner of the Year after a slight challenge at the midway point. Once again, it was the team race that came down to the wire.
 
Through the first 2,000-4,000 meters of the race, Mines and Adams State both had their five scoring runners racing neck-and-neck. But as Amor broke away in the late stages, the front pack also broke apart. As fans watched the competitors come down the stretch, they saw that the Orediggers had left no doubt. Fuehne (24:19.5) took bronze, Loic Scomparin (24:23.9) was fourth, and Paul Knight (24:24.9) finished fifth – all before ASU had its first runner stop the clock. Logan Bocovich (24:38.5) and John O'Malley (24:39.8) rounded out Mines' scoring, placing ninth and 11th, respectively.
 
Max Bonenberger (24:56.6), Braden Struhs (25:00.5), and Daniel Appleford put a stamp of dominance on the Oredigger's day. Bonenberger was 16th, Struhs was 22nd, and Appleford was 36th. In the end, Fuehne, Scomparin, Knight, Bocovich, and O'Malley were First-Team All-RMAC. Bonenberger and Struhs were Second-Team All-RMAC.
 
NOTABLES
- The last team to win five straight RMAC titles was Adams State from 2005-10.
- Coach Siemers won his seventh RMAC Coach of the Year award.
- Mines' women have not scored less than 60 points since at least 2012.
- The Oredigger women have won team silver each of the last five years and six times in the last seven.
- Saturday marked the first time since 2019 that the Oredigger men have not had the RMAC Freshman of the Year.
