Mines Swept by CSU Pueblo

GOLDEN, Colo. – The Colorado School of Mines Volleyball team closed the second RMAC pod of the season with an 0-3 loss to CSU Pueblo on Saturday evening inside Lockridge Arena.

Rose Stuewe was the box score leader for the Orediggers with eight kills. Emily Knight added seven kills as well. Meghna Slaninka added to the offense from the back row by racking up three service aces. Slaninka also tallied seven digs, as did Madison Glassco. Presley Powell and Knight had two blocks apiece. Powell also contributed 28 assists, four digs, and one kill.

Mines (11-10) produced a total of nine service aces as a team. However, CSU Pueblo (11-11) hit .462 on the attack and held the Orediggers to a .218 hitting percentage. Even though the home team won the service game, the ThunderWolves edged, or beat out, Mines in every other statistical category. As part of the RMAC pod, the match did not count towards the conference standings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The opening set featured seven ties, one lead change, and four kills off the hand of Stuewe, but CSU Pueblo used a late surge to earn a 25-18 win. The visitors held Mines to .074 hitting in the frame. That led to an identical 25-18 score in game two. Even though the Orediggers upped their offensive efficiency, the tally went in favor of the ThunderWolves who posted a .516 attack percentage. Six ties and three lead changes made the third set the most competitive of the night. Six service aces by Mines made things extremely interesting as well. But when it was all said and done, CSU Pueblo closed out the sweep with a 25-21 win.
