GOLDEN, Colo. - Colorado School of Mines tops the first release of the NCAA's regional rankings, while also remaining #1 in both major national polls for a third straight week.
The all-important regional rankings, which determine the 28-team field for the NCAA Championship, puts the Orediggers on top of Super Region IV ahead of Western Colorado, who Mines defeated 42-7 on Saturday. UT Permian Basin, Central Washington, Augustana, Minnesota State, and Bemidji State were also ranked; the top seven teams in each region qualify for the NCAA field, with the four #1 seeds receiving first-round byes.
Meanwhile the polls were largely unchanged at the top with the AFCA poll putting Mines ahead of Pitt State, Grand Valley State, Harding, and Slippery Rock, the D2football.com top five having Mines, Grand Valley State, Pitt State, Ferris State, and Harding in that order. Western Colorado fell to #15/17 as the only other ranked RMAC program, and CSU Pueblo received votes in the AFCA poll.
Mines (9-0, 7-0 RMAC) will celebrate senior day and have a chance to clinch a share of the RMAC title this Saturday with its final home regular season game against New Mexico Highlands at noon.
