Stuewe Stands Tall in Sweep of Skyhawks

GOLDEN, Colo. – The Colorado School of Mines Volleyball team rallied behind a 14-kill, error-free night from Rose Stuewe on Friday to claim a 3-0 win against Fort Lewis inside Lockridge Arena.

Amid a slew of highlight performances, Stuewe's rose to the top as she hit .609 on 23 attempts while adding three digs and one block. Emily Knight joined in the fun by adding 12 kills on .357 hitting along with three total blocks. Furthermore, Shannon Perna and Allison Jansen combined for 16 kills with just one error between the duo. Perna added seven digs, two blocks, and one ace to her resume as well. In the back row, Meghan Slaninka and Jada Price combined for 21 digs. Setter Presley Powell coordinated it all to the tune of 44 assists, eight digs, and two blocks.

Mines (13-12, 6-7 RMAC) rode its hitters efficiency to a combined attack percentage of .388. Seven total blocks by the Orediggers helped them hold Fort Lewis (13-12, 6-7 RMAC) under .200 on the attack. Mines also recorded more points, kills, aces, assists, and digs than the Skyhawks. It proved necessary in a match the Orediggers had to win to keep a chance at the postseason alive. With the victory, Mines moved into a tie for #8 in the conference standings. Another win on Saturday would push the Orediggers into a tie for #7 in the standings. Eight teams qualify for the conference tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Six ties and two lead changes proved misleading in the opening set as the home team ran away to a 25-15 win. Stuewe, Perna, and Jansen combined for 12 error-free kills which boosted Mines' hitting percentage to .421 for the frame. That being said, 12 ties and one lead change in the second set told the story of an extra-points showdown. In the end, Mines prevailed by score of 28-26 thanks to five more error-free kills from Stuewe, five digs by Glassco, and 14 assists from Powell. The final set was all Orediggers. Stuewe and Knight notched four kills apiece without an attack error, Perna had three kills on four attempts, and Powell stacked up five digs and 12 assists in the 25-16, match-clinching win.
