2023 CSC Academic All-America® Teams
AUSTIN, Texas – Two more postseason laurels were announced on Wednesday for the Colorado School of Mines women's soccer program, as the center back duo of one of the best defenses in the country in 2023 of
Katie Koehler and
Natalie Rouse were both named Second Team Academic All-America® by the College Sports Communicators (CSC).
For Koehler, it is the second such honor in as many years as she was named First Team Academic All-America® last year. Lining up next to Rouse each match, the senior captain helped spearhead a Mines defense that posted 15 shutouts and held opponents to 0.55 goals and 7.3 shots per match. She matched her career high in scoring with four goals this season and added the first two assists of her career for 10 points. She started 21 of 22 matches this season and logged an even 1,900 minutes in 2023. Koehler currently holds a 3.966 GPA in Electrical Engineering.
Rouse, who completed her first season at Mines this fall after arriving in January from Division I UNLV, was an immediate breakout star for Mines in her first season in Golden. One of three players to start all 22 matches this season, she led the team in minutes played with 1,975, playing all but 25 minutes over the course of the season. The RMAC Defensive Player of the Year, she was dynamic on both sides of the ball, playing alongside Koehler as part of a back line that posted 15 shutouts and held opponents to 0.55 goals and 7.3 shots per match while also scoring six times, all via headers on set pieces, and adding an assist for 13 points. She scored in each of the first two games of her career at Mines and three of four to start the season. Rouse holds a 3.945 GPA in Computational & Applied Mathematics.
The duo become the 174th and 175th Academic All-America® selections in Mines history, the most of any NCAA Division II institution and are the first teammates to earn the honor in the same season since Devon Dunmire and Jennifer Kendall were honored in the 2017-18 season. Overall, the women's soccer program has now had five total selections since the 2020-21 season and at least one student-athlete honored each year and had eight total selections since 2017-18.
