WACO, Texas - Colorado School of Mines head coach
Pete Sterbick is one of five AFCA Regional Coaches of the Year in NCAA Division II, announced Wednesday.
In his first year as head coach, Sterbick has guided the Orediggers to its best record in program history at 13-0 ahead of this weekend's NCAA semifinals, a fifth consecutive RMAC title, and for the first time, the #1 ranking in both major polls. Mines earned the NCAA's overall #1 seed as they take on Kutztown (led by their region's coach of the year, Jim Clements) Saturday.
This season, Mines ranks among the national leaders on both sides of the ball, leading D-II in scoring offense and turnovers gained, ranking second in total offense, second in first-downs offense and completion percentage, and third in scoring defense, and third-down offense, rushing defense. As Mines' offensive coordinator from 2019 to 2022, Sterbick was named the 2022 FootballScoop Coordinator of the Year after the Orediggers made last year's NCAA Division II championship game. Mines has put up historic offensive numbers under Sterbick, including leading the nation in scoring in 2022 and 2023 and leading the RMAC in scoring each of his four seasons.
Mines hosts Kutztown at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, live on ESPN+, for a spot in the national final.
