GOLDEN, Colo. – The College Sports Communicators (CSC) announced the Academic All-District teams for the sport of men's basketball Tuesday and three members of the Colorado School of Mines men's basketball program were recognized for the accomplishments on the court and in the classroom, as redshirt seniors
Sam Beskind and
Brendan Sullivan along with redshirt freshman
Reagan Koch were among those named to the Division II team.
The 2022-23 Academic All-District® Men's Basketball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
Beskind, a graduate transfer from Stanford in his first season at Mines, already owns undergraduate and graduate degrees in Management Science & Engineering and is working towards graduate degrees in Humanitarian Engineering & Advanced Energy Systems at Mines and currently holds a 3.9 GPA at Mines. The starting point guard for the Orediggers this season, Beskind was named to the Bevo Francis Top 100 Watchlist as one of the best players in small college basketball across the country in January. He has played in all 26 games with 25 starts and is averaging 27.3 minutes, 9.8 points and 4.1 rebounds per game and is shooting .517/.358/.817. He currently ranks fourth in the RMAC with 98 assists and his 37 steals are good for sixth in the league and has scored in double digits 13 times this season, with a season-high 25 coming back on November 11 at Cal State Monterey Bay.
Sullivan, named earlier this month First Team Academic All-RMAC and RMAC Academic Player of the Year for the third time in his career, earns Academic All-District distinction for the fourth consecutive season, having already completed an undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering from Mines and is currently working towards a graduate degree in Engineering Technology & Management with a cumulative 3.78 GPA. The Highlands Ranch native has started all 26 games for the Orediggers this season and is averaging 29.3 minutes, 13.4 points and 4.4 rebounds per game while shooting .518/.407/.769. In recent weeks he has passed several career milestones, including 150 career steals, 200 career three-pointers, 600 rebounds and 100 blocks and is seventh in program history with 1,864 points.
Koch has been a spark off the bench for the Orediggers all year long in his debut season, appearing in all 26 contests and averaging 16.4 minutes, 5.8 points and 2.7 rebounds per night. On the season he his shooting .551/.431/.700 and has 56 assists and 29 steals, both of which places him inside the top 20 in the RMAC this season. Five times this season he has scored in double-digits, including a career-high 14 at Cal State Monterey Bay. He is currently working towards a degree in Mechanical Engineering and carries a 3.86 GPA.
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in mid-March.
The Orediggers (22-4, 16-4) wrap up Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference regular season play this weekend when they hit the road for the return trips to Adams State and Fort Lewis on Friday and Saturday.
