COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference announced its weekly award winners for men's basketball Monday afternoon, and Colorado School of Mines forward
Kai Barr was named the league's Defensive Player of the Week following a 2-0 weekend on the road as the Orediggers remained closed out the regular season with wins over Adams State and #5/6 Fort Lewis.
The award is the first of the Pottsboro, Texas native's career and comes following a weekend where he recorded his second double-double of the season and third of his Mines career. Friday night Barr was nearly unstoppable against the Grizzlies, scoring 12 points on 4-6 shooting and going 4-6 from the line with 12 rebounds two assists and a steal in 26 minutes of action. Saturday against the Skyhawks, he went 3-5 from the floor for six points but did still record eight boards in 16 minutes of action due to foul trouble. For the weekend, Barr averaged 9.0 PPG, 10.0 RPG, 1.0 APG and 0.5 SPG in 21.0 MPG.
He joins
Adam Krasovec (Dec. 19) and
Adam Thistlewood (Jan. 16) as the other Orediggers to win a weekly award this season.
The #15/24 Orediggers will open the 2022-23 RMAC Men's Basketball Championship at home Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. when they host Chadron State at Lockridge Arena.
