Bryan Clay Invitational Results
Maverick Invite & Multi Results
AZUSA, Calif. & GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - It was a historic Saturday for Colorado School of Mines as another three program records fell and numerous national top-10 performances were produced at the Bryan Clay Invitational and the Maverick Invite & Multi.
Everett Delate broke the 37-year-old Mines hurdles record,
Luke Julian bettered the long-standing 1500m mark, and the women's 4x400 raced to a new record to lead Mines in wrapping up the Bryan Clay, while at Colorado Mesa, the Orediggers captured four event wins on the first day of competition.
AT THE BRYAN CLAY INVITATIONAL
Saturday's start was one to remember as Delate took down the oldest track record still standing at Mines, going below Tim Lane's 14.01 110m hurdles time from 1986 to become the only sub-14 Oredigger in the event. Delate, whose previous best was 14.10 set at CSU Pueblo to open this season, was fifth overall in the competitive field, and set the new #9 time in D-II this season. He adds the record to his 60m hurdles mark that he claimed this past indoor season.
Later in the afternoon, the women's 4x400 blazed another new record as they stopped the clock in 3:44.45, 1.7 seconds under the standard set last year. The relay of
Amena Nelson,
Grace Galvin,
Mackenzie Duck, and
Aryelle Wright - anchored by an impressive 54.98 split from Wright less than 24 hours after she reset the program 800m record - would put Mines at #5 on the national performance list pending other results this weekend.
Julian capped the exceptional weekend with the Orediggers' fifth program record of meet, snapping the long-held 1500m record of Hall of Famer and national champion Mack McLain with a 3:41.84 time. The performance ranks #2 on the D-II list this season and was the fastest raw-time 1500 in the RMAC since 2015; McLain's standard had stood since 2011. In a later heat,
Loic Scomparin ran 3:45.87 in his debut at the distance, also a national top-10 time this season and the #5 performance in Mines history.Â
Earlier in the day in the open 400m, Nelson ran 56.53 and
Randi Higashi 58.51.
AT THE MAVERICK INVITE & MULTI
The first day of the Maverick Invite & Multi was good for the Orediggers, who won four of the eight field events on Saturday to start the two-day meet.Â
Hunter Potrykus made it four-for-four on event wins this outdoor season as he cleared 5.03m to take the pole vault competition. The indoor all-American had no misses through 5.03m, and took a crack at a would-be PR of 5.21m.
Noah Kelly was second at 4.73m, also with no misses, and
Aidan Bennett cleared 4.28m for fourth.
Hannah Miller also kept a win streak going with her sixth pole vault victory in a row dating back to indoor season, clearing a season-best 4.10m. The indoor national champion cemented her outdoor nationals qualifying status with the mark, which ranks fourth nationally.
Ava Kowalski made a new personal best for the second straight week at 3.83m to take second, while
Avery Herbold was fourth at the same height,
Dale Thompson fifth getting over 3.68m, and
Lauren Kelly sixth at 3.38m.Â
Davin Kiesby highlighted the throwers' day with his first collegiate event victory, winning the hammer throw in a 1-2 with teammate
Arvid Veidmark IV. Kiesby tossed 56.00m even on his third attempt to win by more than three meters over Veidmark at 52.98m.
Hayden Swim was ninth (42.92m) and
Brody Welch 10th (41.06m). The Oredigger women also had plenty of success in the event taking four of the top seven spots led by
Jennifer Jarnagin, who was second on a collegiate-best 47.66m throw.
Kitt Rupar was third (40.70m) with
Abbi Gillespie fifth (a PR of 36.74m) and
Rylie Ward seventh (36.27m).
Garrett Lanker hit a best of 51.24m for fourth in the javelin, with
Grant Redmond one spot behind as he recorded new personal best of 48.06m.
Lexye Wood kept her outstanding outdoor season going with a 5.80m win in the long jump, while
Sidney Walshaw placed fourth (5.37m) and
Claire Kintzley sixth (5.21m). In the men's event,
Garrett Halbrooks placed fifth at 6.76m with
Fischer James Espiritu Argosino eighth on 6.36m.Â
In the heptathlon,
Avery Wright stands second through four events with 2,946 points. Wright started with out a new personal best in the 100m hurdles, 15.15 seconds, then cleared a season-best 1.55m in the high jump and an all-conditions collegiate-best 11.17m in the shot put, before ending Saturday with a 25.52 200m clocking to win that event.Â
