Orediggers Drop Doubleheader, Series to Regis

GOLDEN, Colo. – A pair of losses in Monday's RMAC doubleheader at Jim Darden Field led to the Colorado School of Mines Baseball team being swept in its series with Regis by scores of 12-8 and 8-1.

Jackson Woolwine was the bright spot on offense. He played the entirety of both games and went 4-for-6 (.667) with one run, four RBI, and one walk. I-Ly Hsue and Caden Bonds both scored twice for the Orediggers. Hits for extra bases came off the bats of Bonds, Trent Nielsen, Mason Andrews and Luke Folsom. Bonds and Nielsen both notched doubles, Andrews had a triple, and Folsom smacked a home run. Ben Schoneman (3-3) and Blake Ripp (4-3) were the starting pitchers and both took their respective losses. Schoneman lasted 3.1 innings in game one. Ripp spun 6.0 innings in game two while striking out five and issuing zero walks. Weston Siefken, Gray St. Amant, Jackson Bakovich, Rodney Gregg, Marcus Lee, and Matthew Dobberthien all came out of the bullpen.

As a team, Mines (17-20, 12-12 RMAC) was limited to .182 at the plate despite two doubles, one triple, and one home run. The Oredigger pitching staff only issued two walks while striking out 10. Regis (22-16, 13-7 RMAC) offset seven walks from its pitching staff by striking out 15 home batters. The Rangers' also benefitted from a .414 average at the plate which included 20 runs on 29 hits with eight doubles and five home runs as RU slugged .743 as a team. Mines committed three errors on defense while Regis tossed up two clean sheets in the field.

GAME ONE: Regis 12, Mines 8
The visitors charged out to a 4-0 lead thanks to one run in the first inning and three more in the second inning. Mines wiped that away with a five-run third inning highlighted by Andrews' two-run triple. However, the Rangers kept rolling with one run in the fourth and six more in the fifth. Their defense put the Orediggers' scoring on pause until Woolwine plated Bonds in the sixth frame. Woolwine's two-run double in the eighth was too little too late. Regis added one insurance run in the top of the ninth to make the final tally.

GAME TWO: Regis 8, Mines 1
It was an epic pitcher's duel in the series finale; at least through the first six innings. Ripp allowed just three hits through the first four innings and faced just two over the minimum number of batters. Regis starter Mason Ashcraft carried a no-hit bid into the bottom of the fifth inning. Folsom broke up the no-no with a solo home run which tied the game at 1-1 after the Rangers hit their only solo shot in the top of the fifth. Unfortunately, that would be all the offense the Orediggers could muster. Another solo home run in the top of the sixth and six RU runs in the seventh closed the door on the home team.
