GOLDEN, Colo. -
Lexye Wood's new program record in the long jump highlighted the first day of the Kit Mayer Classic hosted by Colorado School of Mines at Stermole Track.
Wood hit 6.07m on her second attempt to edge Michelle Rigsby's 6.05m record that had stood since 2016. Wood surpassed that mark twice, also landing at 6.06m on her final attempt. It extends Wood's RMAC-best performance this season and slots in as the #5 mark in NCAA Divison II so far in 2023.
Wood wasn't the only Oredigger with a big long jump performance as
Sidney Walshaw hit a massive personal best, 5.77m, to take fourth in the competition. Walshaw's previous was 5.53m, and she now moves up to #6 all-time at Mines in the event as a freshman.
The men's shot putters had a great Friday as
Hayden Swim,
Brody Welch, and
Arvid Veidmark IV went second through fourth in the event. Swim led the way at 15.28m, his new outdoor career best, which vaults him into the program's all-time top-10 at #7. Welch's best was 15.02m, the new #8 all-time Mines performance and his own outdoor best, while Veidmark's 14.90m is his season best.
Kitt Rupar placed seventh in the women's event at 11.24m, her season best, with
Avery Wright 15th with a 10.19m mark.
Garrett Lanker landed a season-best 51.99m to place fifth in the javelin throw, with
Grant Redmond's 47.18m earning him 13th as the high jumper attempted the javelin for the first time with solid marks. In the women's event, Jennifer Jarnigan marked down 30.18m to take seventh in the javelin with
Avery Wright 10th at 28.56m in her debut.
The Kit Mayer Classic continues Saturday starting at 10 a.m., and is streamed live on the RMAC Network.
