Orediggers Go Big On Kit Mayer Classic Day 2

- National times and event wins set the tone for the day as Colorado School of Mines hosted the Kit Mayer Classic at Stermole Track.

The Orediggers recorded seven new or improved NCAA provisional performances led by a combined five national top-10 times between the men's 5,000m and women's 10,000m.

MEN'S TRACK HIGHLIGHTS
The men's 5,000m highlighted the day on the track as the trio of John O'Malley, Steven Goldy, and Duncan Fuehne all hit NCAA provisional times. O'Malley won the event in 14:27.03, a massive at-altitude personal best that ranks #4 nationally this season; Goldy at 14:29.13 and Fuehne at 14:33.80 are right behind him on the national performance list. Mines claimed six of the top seven spots in the race with Paul Knight fourth (14:57.00), Andrew Kaye sixth (15:16.43), and Jeremiah Vaille seventh (15:19.92).

In the 1500m, Alberto Campa and Matt Mettler placed third and fifth as Campa, paced out by teammate Luke Julian, notched an NCAA provisional time of 3:55.72 and Mettler crossed in 3:57.45. 

Tim Thompson and Andy Gebhardt went 1-2 in the 800m, running 1:52.41 and 1:53.82, respectively. Everett Delate added to the wins as he captured the 110m hurdles in 14.24, and he was later second in the 400m hurdles in 52.68, a nearly full-second PR that elevates him to #4 all-time at Mines in that event. Coulton Chan was third in the 110m hurdles in 15.11 and fourth in the 400m hurdles at 55.04, with Elijah Quinby fifth at 55.33. Garrett Halbrooks ran 10.97, a new personal best, for 12th in the 100m dash.

WOMEN'S TRACK HIGHLIGHTS
While the men had their group dominate the 5K, the women got it done in the 10K as both Molly Maksin and Holly Moser ran NCAA provisional qualifying times to go 1-2-3 in the event with Ashleigh Loe. Paced out by Clare Peters, Maksin's 36:09.74 and Moser's 36:14.19 ended the night #6 and #7, respectively, on the national performance list, while Loe had a 38:36.65 time for third.

The women's 4x400 relay continued to improve as the combo of Amena Nelson, Grace Galvin, Mackenzie Duck, and Aryelle Wright ran a season-best 3:47.71, the #2 time ever at Mines and the new #12 time in NCAA Division II this season. 

Lexi Herr had Mines' first win of the day on the track as she ran a 4:45.49 to capture the 1,500m. Brin Strouse was sixth in 4:51.68, and Ella Kenly 15th at 5:14.42. In her first attempt at the distance, freshman Avery Wright ran a blistering 25.16 to be the top D-II runner and second overall in the 200m, setting the #2 all-time performance and fastest since 2009 at Mines. Grace Galvin was fourth in the 400m (56.72) with Avary Catchings seventh (58.61), while in the 800m, Mackenzie Duck ran 2:14.75 for second (first among D-II runners) to lead out Randi Higashi (11th, 2:24.06) Miranda Manfre (12th, 2:24.41). Allison Comer was fourth in the 400m hurdles in 1:04.67

MEN'S FIELD HIGHLIGHTS
Hunter Potrykus won the pole vault competition for the third straight week, clearing 5.05m to easily top the field. Aidan Bennett came in fifth (4.45m) and Jackson Wray sixth (4.30m). Grant Redmond cleared 2.02m for third in the high jump, and Fischer James Espiritu Argosino was third in the triple jump at 13.93m.

In the cage, Arvid Veidmark IV and Davin Kiesby led Mines' day. Veidmark earned a fifth-place 47.81m in the discus as Kiesby placed 11th (40.74m) and Hayden Swim 14th (37.83m); in the hammer, Kiesby threw a personal-best 56.39m for fourth a spot ahead of Veidmark at 55.31m, and Brody Welch placed 15h (44.13m) with Swim 17th (41.02m). 

WOMEN'S FIELD HIGHLIGHTS
Hannah Miller's pole vault dominance continued as she won her fifth straight meet and eighth of 2022-23, clearing 4.07m. Ava Kowalski and Avery Herbold tied for third at 3.82m, with Lauren Kelly fifth (3.37m) and Gabbi Varela sixth (3.22m). 

Claire Kintzley, Lexye Wood, and Abbi Gillespie tied for fourth in the high jump at 1.53m, with Avery Wright ninth getting over 1.48m. Kintzley later placed third in the triple jump with an 11.09m best mark, a spot ahead of Sidney Walshaw (11.02m).

Kitt Rupar placed fifth in the discus (40.98m) and sixth in the hammer (48.43m), both collegiate bests, to lead the Orediggers in the cage. Rylie Ward was 10th (34.01m) in the discus and 14th in the hammer (38.39m) with Jennifer Jarnagin placing eighth in the hammer (47.21m) and Gillespie 18th (34.24m).
