PUEBLO, Colo. - The second day of the 2023 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships brought more success for Colorado School of Mines as they set up for a big finale on Saturday.
Everett Delate (110m hurdles) and
Max Bonenberger (3,000m steeplechase) earned second-team all-America finishes while
Mackenzie Duck and
Aryelle Wright moved through to Saturday's 800m finals to highlight Mines' evening on the track on the middle day of the meet.
Delate reset his program record in the 110m hurdles with a 13.95 time, just the second sub-14.00 run in Mines history as he bettered his previous 13.99, to finish 10th overall in a blistering field. Meanwhile Bonenberger was 10th in the steeplechase final, running 9:27.76.
Both of Mines' 800m entrants automatically qualified for finals out of two separate heats.
Aryelle Wright controlled her race from start to finish to easily win in 2:10.84, while
Mackenzie Duck made a second-lap move to finish second and book her spot in 2:10.72. The result ensures Mines of at least one podium finish in the event on Saturday.
Avery Wright wrapped up the heptathlon in 13th place, scoring 4,769 points with three events on Friday. Wright started out with a 5.40m performance in the long jump, then hit a meter-plus personal-best in the javelin at 34.84m on her second throw. She finished with a 2:38.06 800m to end up three places beyond her seeding as the field's only true freshman.
SATURDAY'S SCHEDULE
Mines will wrap up the meet tomorrow with 13 total entrants in the women's pole vault, the men high jump, and track finals in the men's 1,500m, women's 800m, and men's and women's 5,000m.
