GREENSBORO, N.C.
– Colorado School of Mines starting pitcher Kevin Zapanta was named Second-Team All-Region by the American Baseball Coaches' Association (ABCA) earlier this week after a successful season on the diamond for the Oredigger baseball team.

The announcement caps a run of 2023 athletic accolades including First-Team All-Region nods from the Division 2 Conference Commissioners' Association (D2CCA), and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers' Association. He was one of 34 players to appear on the ABCA's two South Central All-Region squads. Overall, the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference grabbed 18 of the 34 spots along with ABCA Region Position Player of the Year Julian Boyd from Colorado Mesa. Angelo State's Kade Bragg was named ABCA Region Pitcher of the Year.

Zapanta's 2023 resume also includes RMAC Pitcher of the Year, First-Team All-RMAC, College Sports Communicators Academic All-District, RMAC First-Team All-Academic, NCBWA Regional Pitcher of the Week, and RMAC Pitcher of the Week. The Denver, Colo., native finished his final season touting a league-leading 3.72 ERA with a 3-4 record featuring two complete games and one combined shutout. Zapanta struck out 85 batters across 67.2 innings of work while only walking 19 in 12 starts. His single-season strikeouts rank #4 in Mines' history. The Overland High School graduate also finished his career ranked #5 in all-time strikeouts with 193 across four seasons.
