COLORADO SPRINGS - Colorado School of Mines has won its seventh consecutive RMAC All-Sports Cup, which measures overall department excellence among the RMAC's member institutions.

It is only the second time in the history of the cup that an institution has won seven straight as Mines joins former member Nebraska-Kearney, which won 11 in a row between 1995 and 2005. No active RMAC member has won more total cups than Mines (8) with Adams State (4), MSU Denver (2), and Colorado Mesa (2) also having more than one. The Cup win is Mines' eighth overall, and since winning it for the first time in 2011-12, the Orediggers have finished no lower than third in the standings.

Mines will be awarded the Cup as part of the RMAC Hall of Fame banquet on July 13 in Colorado Springs.

"Winning the RMAC All-Sports Cup represents the incredible dedication and effort by our student-athletes, coaches, staff, and administration," said Director of Athletics David Hansburg. "To win it seven years in a row and to have the sustained success that we have had at Mines would not be possible without every person in the department striving to be the very best they can be. To have this success in the RMAC, one of the best and most competitive NCAA Division II conferences in the nation, makes it even more remarkable. I am so proud of everyone who has been a part of this success!"

The Cup is determined on a points system based on regular-season finishes, or RMAC Championship finishes in cross country, track & field, and swimming. Institutions count the finishes of their four core sports (men's basketball, women's basketball, women's volleyball, and either football or men's soccer) plus their top three men's and three women's team scores, for a possible total of 1,000 points.

In 2022-23, Mines' strong fall and winter seasons clinched the cup before the spring even began as the Orediggers' core sports scored 362 points. Football, men's soccer, men's cross country, women's soccer, and women's indoor track & field all claimed RMAC championships during the year, with the core sports of volleyball, men's basketball, and women's basketball all scoring strongly as well. Mines' women's wild cards of soccer, indoor track & field, and cross country combined for 294 points, while the men's wild cards of cross country, soccer, and outdoor track & field added up to 277.
