ESPOO, FINLAND
- Colorado School of Mines distance runner Loic Scomparin is set to represent France in the European Athletics U23 Championships 5,000m run this weekend in Finland.

Scomparin will run the 5K final on Friday, July 14 at 11:30 a.m. local time (GMT +3), or 2:30 a.m. Mountain, at the Leppävaara Stadium in Espoo, Finland. The meet is being streamed live on allathletics.tv

Scomparin heads into the race seeded sixth. Coming off a strong NCAA Outdoor Championships performance in late May, Scomparin qualified for the Euro U23 meet thanks to a lifetime-best 13:42.41 time at the Meeting National de Carquefou in France on June 24. His 2022-23 collegiate season saw him earn all-America honors in all three seasons across a variety of distances, finishing 10th nationally at the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships, eighth in the indoor 3,000m, and third in the outdoor 10,000m. He was ninth in the 5K at outdoors two days after his bronze-medal 10K performance, and set a collegiate-best 5K time of 13:45.65 at sea level at Stanford in April. He set personal bests at every distance he ran in 2022-23, including the mile and 3K indoors, and 1,500m, 5,000m, and 10,000m outdoors.

The redshirt junior was well-rewarded earning three USTFCCCA First-Team All-America honors, another Second-Team All-America nod, CSC First-Team Academic All-America, and four USTFCCCA All-Region awards. Scomparin graduated with his B.S. in environmental engineering in May and will work on his master's degree in his final year of eligibility in 2023-24.
