LAKEWOOD, Colo. - Colorado School of Mines owns a slim 36-hole lead at The Writz at Mile High, riding consistent play in the second round at Bear Creek.
The Orediggers hold a one-shot lead over Colorado Christian, carding an identical three-over 363 team score as Sunday in the play-six-count-five format. A hard-charging Cougars team compiled a four-under 356 on Monday to pull within a shot of Mines.
Lukas Taggart,
Owen Cornmesser, and
Max Lange are all in the top five individually for Mines, and the bottom part of the Orediggers' lineup had a strong Monday as
Ethan Adam and
Theodore Reitter each moved up the leaderboard.
Taggart made a move to tie for second through 36 holes after an up-and-down one-under 71. Taggart had four birdies on the front side against a bogey and double-bogey, then was even on the way in to stay under par. Cornmesser, who was in second overnight, fell two spots to fourth after carding a 75 to move back to even par for the tournament. Lange joins them in the top five after pairing Sunday's 72 with a one-over 73.
A day after shooting 76, Reitter was one of the day's biggest movers with a one-under 71 to advance to T11. The junior birdied two of the course's four par-3s and finished up with a birdie on 18 to get under par. Adam also bounced back from being Sunday's non-counter to shoot 73, finishing on a birdie to be T31.
Carter Lolli was Mines' non-scorer in round 2, carding 79 to be T31 at +8. Both of Mines' individuals shot 77 with
Charlie Tran shaving a stroke off his first-round score and
Lucas Schulte going two shots lower. Tran is T36 at +10, and Schulte T38 at +12.
CCU's Adam Duncan leads the field at -4, three shots ahead of Taggart and teammate Xavier Bighaus.
Tuesday's final round starts tee times at 7:30 a.m., with the Orediggers going out beginning at 9:36 a.m. paired with CSU Pueblo and Colorado Christian.
