#2 Mines Rolls Past Adams St., Improves To 3-0

GOLDEN, Colo. - It was a true team effort as contributions came from every direction in #2 Colorado School of Mines' comprehensive 70-7 win over Adams State to open RMAC play.

The Orediggers (3-0, 1-0 RMAC) dominated both sides of the ball, roaring out to a 49-0 halftime lead and not allowing a first down by the Grizzlies (1-2, 0-1 RMAC) before the break.

Nine different Orediggers scored a touchdown with a first half masterminded by John Matocha, who completed 20-of-26 passing attempts for 341 yards and five touchdowns, with Evan Foster playing a half's worth of football and passing for 53 yards and rushing for 29 and a score. Max McLeod compiled his third consecutive 100+ yard game with 109 and a score on five catches.

It was the diversity of options for Matocha that made up the bulk of the first half's offense with Landon Walker, Aksel Richard, Nick Stone, McLeod, Sean Roberts, and Billy Pospisil III all hitting the end zone. Ultimately, 12 different players caught a pass for Mines and nine had a rush. Mines scored on its first 10 possessions through the middle of the fourth quarter.

The Orediggers wasted no time with Walker capping a 65-play drive with a one-yard touchdown to open the game, then catching a pass in the flat and streaking 10 yards to the house on the next drive. Richard scored his first career touchdown on a trick run play from 19 yards to set the lead at 21-0 after a quarter.

Mines continued to produce in the second quarter with Stone's 11-yarder - also the first of his career - making it 28-0, and McLeod capping an 80-yard drive with a 16-yard catch. Matocha went over the top for Roberts on a 47-yard, one-play scoring drive for his first collegiate TD, and Pospisil joined him in the touchdown club on the next drive to score with 2:09 left in the half, making the lead 49-0.

The Orediggers kept it on the ground in the second half with Konnor Mickelsen, Braelon Tate (his career first), and Foster finding the end zone. Adams State's lone score came on Rasheed Rankin's four-yard run late in the third quarter.
