#7 Mines Stampedes Past Angelo State to Extend Winning Streak

GOLDEN, Colo. – The seventh-ranked Colorado School of Mines women's soccer team opened the second leg of their season-opening six-match home stand Thursday night, welcoming Angelo State back to Stermole Stadium. The Orediggers (3-0-0) controlled the scoresheet in nearly every category over the course of 90 minutes and once again saw multiple players score as they downed the Rambelles (1-1-1) by a final score of 4-0 for the third consecutive match.

Mines wasted little time once again getting the evening's festivities underway, as Reese McDermott needed just 63 seconds to give Angelo State netminder Amber Lockwood her first test of the night. Three more shots went up in the first 13 minutes for the Orediggers who did an excellent job of maintaining possession in their offensive zone and not allowing the Rambelle's defense a moment's respite.

As the shots kept coming by the Oredigger offense, the defense was just as good, holding ASU without a shot in the match until the 34th minute, a shot on frame that was an easy save for keeper Sadie Wolf. It felt like it was only a matter of time until Mines scored, as the ASU defense had no answer for the relentless pressure being applied or the speed of the Mines attack. A foul in the penalty area on Cloey Seltzer in the 43rd minute, Ava Harman stepped up to the spot and delivered a strike to beat Lockwood to her left for the first goal of the game to put the Orediggers on top heading into the intermission.

The pressure didn't relent as the second half began, as Afton Rasco rattled the frame in the 48th minute before McDermott connected on a pass from Landry Corbett to double the lead 50 seconds later to double the lead to 2-0.

The next 26 minutes saw Mines post nine more shots as the entire cast started getting in on the action. A 59th minute rifle from McDermott rebounded so hard off the crossbar it almost went off the prone figure of Lockwood and into goal, but fortunately for Angelo State it rolled away with harm. A turnaround volley by Bella Campos sailed just high in the 74th minute, but the third goal of the night for Mines wasn't too far behind.

A yellow card issued to ASU in the 75th minute resulted in another set piece opportunity from Mines, as Cloey Seltzer put the ball back in play towards goal and was able to thread the needle through heavy traffic at the mouth of goal to sneak it inside the far post to make it a 3-0 game.

What ended up being the final goal of the evening wasn't far behind after play resumed, as Campos played a shallow cross from the far side to a waiting Ellise Putnam who found her mark in the 77th minute to make it 4-0 Mines for the third-consecutive match.
The final 13 minutes saw both teams empty their benches and play out the stretch, as the Orediggers extended their winning streak to three in convincing fashion with the 4-0 victory.
