For the second week in a row, Colorado School of Mines Women's Rugby was on the road. This week, the Orediggers faced the Air Force Academy Falcons in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Mines started off slow as Air Force immediately scored off of kickoff and made the conversion to make the score, 7 - 0. Our Orediggers quickly snapped back with strong defense and a try scored by Piper Lee, making the score 7 - 5.
The game remained tight as the Falcons and Orediggers exchanged hard hits. Air Force was next to score with a conversion to follow. A high tackle resulted in a penalty try in favor of Air Force, as the game went to 21 - 5. McKenzie Williams turned some momentum back to the Orediggers with our second try of the game. However, Air Force was quick to answer with another two tries before half time.
Utilizing the halftime well, the Orediggers made some great adjustments. Trailing 31 - 15, our Orediggers looked to draw first blood. Piper Lee scored a strong two tries to bring the Orediggers back into the match with a score 31 - 22 and plenty of time remaining. The Falcons did not have an answer in the second half of the match as another two tries gave Mines Women's Rugby a lead of 34 - 31. With strong Mines defense and grit, Mines would score another two tries to shutout Air Force in the second half and giving our Orediggers, their second win of the season, 43 - 31.
Keep supporting Oredigger Rugby as they look to make another Nationals appearance later this season!
