Orediggers Fall to ASU, Celebrate Seniors

GOLDEN, Colo. – Saturday marked Senior Night and the last home match of the 2024 regular season for the Colorado School of Mines Volleyball team. Unfortunately for the Orediggers, Adams State spoiled the festivities by taking a 3-0 win from the home team.

Statistical leaders for the Orediggers (7-13, 4-6 RMAC) were Kate Kudlac, Hope Storm, Jade Price, and Allison Jansen. Kudlac recorded eight kills. Storm had 25 assists to go along with six digs, three blocks, and one kill on .500 hitting. Price posted 10 digs and once service ace. Jenna McLaughlin also had an ace. Also notable were Hannah Kinnison's seven digs, six kills, and five total blocks. Set scores of 25-23, 25-21, and 25-21 gave Adams State (7-15, 4-7 RMAC) the victory. A total of 12 blocks by Mines were not enough to overcome statistical disadvantages in nearly every other category. The Orediggers still hold a percentage-points advantage over the Grizzlies in the conference standings. Kinnison, Storm, and Emma Smithey were the seniors recognized after the match.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Saturday's opening set featured a 5-for-5 performance from Kudlac, fueling a team attack percentage of .303. Storm's fingertips provided 12 assist, and Jansen knocked down three total blocks. The home team even went on a 4-0 run when facing set point. However, the rally came up short and Adams State took a 1-0 lead. McChesney's three, error-free kills and two more blocks from Jansen highlighted the second frame for Mines. In the end, it was a scrappy set where the Grizzlies hit just .116 in the win and the Orediggers were held to .030 on the attack. In the final game of the night, Taylor Helms took the lead for Mines and landed four kills on four attempts. Price also had five digs. But, ASU converted two service aces compared to zero service errors. Mines had three service errors and only one ace while hitting .171. The final home match of 2024 came to a close in less than one hour and 45 minutes.
