United Soccer Coaches Week 5 Top 25 Poll
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The fifth regular season rankings from the United Soccer Coaches Association were released on Tuesday and for the second week running, the Colorado School of Mines women's soccer team stands atop Division II, maintaining their #1 position in this week's poll.
Mines (9-0-1, 3-0-1) remained unbeaten at they hit the road for Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action but not in the manner they had planned on, settling for a 1-1 draw at Black Hills State Friday before blowing out Regis 3-0 Sunday in Denver.
Bella Campos scored what looked like the go-ahead goal Friday against the Yellow Jackets in the final 10 minutes of the first half off a header from a cross by
Kaitlyn Manalili, but BHSU responded with an equalizer 25 seconds later off the ensuing kickoff to level things at 1-1. That's where things ended as despite multiple opportunities in the second half, Mines couldn't cash in. Sunday saw a scoreless first half against the Rangers before
Reese McDermott led the charge to pull away in the second half, scoring twice in a 12-minute span to become the fourth 100-point player in program history before Manalili added her first career goal in the final moments of the winning effort that did not allow a shot on goal by Regis.
More shuffling took place behind the Orediggers, with Cal Poly Pomona taking over second followed by Columbus State moving up to third. Ashland surged into the top five, moving up from eighth to fourth while Central Missouri rounded out the top five after checking in at #7 last week. Previous #2 Grand Valley State dropped all the way to #16 this week following their first loss of the season, while RMAC running mates Colorado Mesa and MSU Denver both earned votes in this week's rankings.
Mines wraps up a four-match road trip this weekend as they'll head west to take on Fort Lewis Friday evening in Durango before climbing up over 7,700 feet of elevation on their way to Gunnison Sunday to take on Western Colorado.
