COLORADO SPRINGS – The Colorado School of Mines Volleyball team earned a gritty, 3-1 win at UCCS on Saturday night.
A pair of double-double performances led the Oredidggers' charge.
Hannah Kinnison had 14 kills and 17 digs. She added one ace and three total blocks as well.
Hope Storm recorded the second double-double for Mines thanks to 33 assists and 11 digs.
Allison Jansen provided a third notable performance. She finished the night with nine kills, four aces, and two blocks. Also notable were two blocks from
Taylor Helms and seven kills on .278 hitting from
Brianna Binder.
Mines (9-14, 5-6 RMAC) was out performed in nearly every statistical category. However, the Orediggers put up seven aces and seven blocks as a team to make up the difference. The UCCS Mountain Lions (10-13, 4-7 RMAC) just broke the .200 mark for hitting percentage. They also churned out more kills and more assists than their guests. Eleven service errors for the home team were unhelpful in regards to UCCS earning a win. Mines is now ninth in the conference standings, but two teams in front of the Orediggers have played one less conference match as of the writing of this article.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Kinnison hammered out four kills and Jansen had four aces in the first set, which Mines won by a score of 25-21. In game two, UCCS worked a 25-9 margin as the Mountain Lions left limited highlights for the Orediggers. Three kills each from Kinnison,
Jenna McLaughlin, and Binder grabbed the headline in game three. But it was really the backrow that anchored a 25-19 win for the visitors as Murillo put up nine digs, Kinnison had eight digs, and
Jada Price had six digs. Game four required extra points, but Mines emerged victorious and clinched the match. The fourth frame featured seven kills on 12 attempts with zero errors from Kinnison. Binder added four kills and Storm notched 12 assists as the Orediggers won, 26-24.

- Mines is 33-24 in the all-time series against UCCS.
- The Orediggers have found victory in 18 straight meetings with the Mountain Lions.
- Saturday marked the first time that UCCS had taken even a single set from Mines.
