LAST ONE

It's not just the last game of 2024 for the Oredigger women, it also marks the end of non-conference play. After winning its first RMAC contest on Monday, a victory on Friday would give Mines its first back-to-back wins of the season and send the team into the holiday break on a high note.

LOOKING BACK
Mines played its first conference home games of the season last Saturday and Monday. The unconventional schedule was due to commencement ceremonies on campus. Saturday saw RMAC preseason favorite Colorado Mesa come to Lockridge Arena. The Mavericks dispatched the Orediggers by a score of 67-48 despite 38 combined points from
Josephine Howery and
Jenna Siebert. Howery added nine rebounds, one assist, one block, and one steal. Siebert had five rebounds and two assists. Also notable were 10 rebounds for
Audrey Beaty. Monday was much better for Mines. The home team welcomed Westminster to Golden and rumbled to an 83-40 victory. Four Orediggers scored in double figures with
Emma Sixta's 20 points leading the way. Sixta also notched eight rebounds, five assists and two steals. Mines' defense did not allow a single Griffin to reach double-digit scoring numbers.
SCOUTING ANGELO STATE
Angelo State women's basketball has been a perennial powerhouse over the last decade in both the Lone Star Conference and the South Central Region, winning 20 games or more numerous times and qualifying for multiple NCAA tournaments. This season, the Rambelles are off to a 6-3 start overall with a 4-1 mark in conference play. They come to Golden, Colo., riding a four-game win streak after knocking off Cameron (Okla.) on Monday by a score of 73-70. Angelo State also outlasted Oklahoma Christian in overtime last Saturday in Edmond, Okla. As a team, ASU averages 64.2 points per game and limits its opponents to 61.4 points per game. Individually, Madeline Stephens tops the season box score. She's averaging 13.7 points and 9.3 rebounds per game along with 2.3 steals, 1.7 assists, and 1.2 blocks. Running mate Keniah Williams nearly averages a double-double as well with 9.9 points and 8.9 rebounds. She smacks down 1.9 blocks per night too. Additionally, Majik Esquivel puts up 12.0 points per game.
OREDIGGERS AGAINST THE RAMBELLES
Mines and Angelo State have only played once before in women's basketball. It was a showdown in the first round of the NCAA tournament on March 10, 2016. The Rambelles won the game in Lubbock, Texas, by a score of 71-61. Cassidy Budge and Elizabeth Tomon exploded for a total of 40 points and 17 rebounds.
INTO THE RECORD BOOK
Jenna Siebert put her name in the program record book after her 34-point explosion against Minnesota State last month. She's now tied for fifth for points in a game in program history. The redshirt junior matched Courtney Martin's output at Chadron State from the 2014-15 season. Overall, Siebert is the 16th Oredigger to ever score 30 or more points in a single game. Her performance marked the 26th time that 30 or more points have been scored by a Mines player in a single game. The Orediggers with more points than Siebert in a single night are Taylor Helbig, Denali Pinto, Laura Marshall, and
Ashley Steffeck.
DISHING DIMES
Peyton Freiermuth also put her name in the program record book against defending national champion Minnesota State. With 11 assists, she became the sixth Oredigger to ever dish out double-digit dimes in a single game. Freiermuth's performance tied her with Laura Tyree for third on Mines' all-time list. The only Orediggers with more assists than Freiermuth in a single game are Liz Holter and Debbie Gangloff.
SISTER-SISTER
The Orediggers' 2024-25 roster features sisters
Michaela Lee and
Olivia Lee. Michaela is in her second season at Mines. As a true freshman, she came off the bench and scored six points, grabbed eight rebounds, blocked four shots, and grabbed two steals in just 28 total minutes of action. Olivia is in her first, and only, season as an Oredigger. She started her collegiate career at Western New Mexico before transferring to Cal State San Bernardino after two seasons. The elder Lee completed her bachelor's degree at CSUSB and came to Mines to pursue a master's degree and play her final season of collegiate basketball. Prior to becoming an Oredigger, Olivia accumulated 462 points, 391 rebounds, 61 blocks, 35 assists, and 21 steals across 81 games.
MEET TAYLOR HARRIS
The Mines coaching staff added a fresh face last spring with
Taylor Harris taking over as assistant coach for the Orediggers. Harris, a 14-year veteran coach, came to the Orediggers after leading Fort Lewis' women's squad for three seasons. Other stops for the Colorado native include Miles Community College (Mont.), and 10 years of service at fellow RMAC programs in Regis and MSU Denver. Fans can check out Harris' full biography

Simpson is a three-time RMAC Coach of the Year who has guided 36 All-RMAC selections including 15 first-teamers, 11 second-teamers, one third-team selection and nine honorable mention performers.
