United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The final Top 25 rankings of the 2024 season were announced this week by the United Soccer Coaches and following a season in which they swept the RMAC championships and took home the South Central Region title, the Colorado School of Mines women's soccer team checked in at #4.
The Orediggers (20-1-2, 11-0-1) achieved record status in their 20th anniversary season in 2024, making their first appearance as the top-ranked team in Division II in the October 1 edition of the poll and maintaining that standing over the subsequent six weeks of rankings. Their #4 standing in the final poll of the season matches their result from the 2022 season in which they also swept the RMAC titles and advanced to the national quarterfinals.
Mines was led this season by All-Americans and RMAC superlative award winners
Reese McDermott,
Bella Campos and
Ava Harman. McDermott and Campos shared Player of the Year honors from the league while Harman became the third different Oredigger in as many seasons to earn Defensive Player of the Year honors. Several other Orediggers also earned postseason honors at the conference and regional level including
Lauren Clingman,
Allie Lundgren,
Kaitlyn Manalili and
Cloey Seltzer while head coach
Kevin Fickes was named RMAC Coach of the Year.
National champions Cal Poly Pomona ended the season atop the polls followed by Columbus State in second. National runners-up Minnesota State were third followed by Mines while Grand Valley State rounded out the top five, surging all the way up from 19th in the last regular season rankings. Angelo State, the Orediggers' third round opponent in the national tournament finished the season ranked #18 while RMAC rival Colorado Mesa dropped four spots down to #22.
