GOLDEN, Colo. – More postseason honors arrived Thursday for the Colorado School of Mines women's Soccer duo of Reese McDermott and Ava Harman as the pair were named First and Second Team Scholar All-Americans by the United Soccer Coaches with McDermott taking home the association's highest individual academic honors as the National Scholar Player of the Year.

Mines was one of seven Division II institutions to have multiple scholar All-Americans along with Ashland, Columbus State, Dallas Baptist, Franklin Pierce, Northern Michigan and West Florida. A total of 13 institutions had honorees on one of the two 11-member teams.

McDermott, already a First Team Academic All-America® selection by the College Sports Communicators this fall, earns her second academic honors from the United Soccer Coaches following a Second Team selection in 2023. During the course of the season, she recorded goal streaks of four and six matches along with an eight-match point streak. Four times she scored multiple goals in a match and tallied seven game-winners, one of which was in the RMAC Tournament final against Fort Lewis. Her 19 goals and 45 points this fall are the third most by an individual in a single season in Mines history, adding to an already impressive litany of program records. The Houston, Texas native graduated in December with a degree in Quantitative Biosciences and Engineering while carrying a 3.94 GPA.

Harman earns her first academic honors from the United Soccer Coaches and like McDermott was named a First Team Academic All-America® selection by the College Sports Communicators. The 2024 RMAC Defensive Player of the Year, she was one of four players to start all 23 matches this season for a career-high 1,921 minutes and scored a career-high four times with two assists for 10 points. Three of her goals were game winners against Chico State, Lubbock Christian and Western Washington as she was an anchor of one of the best defenses in the country this season that allowed just 0.57 goals and 7.8 shots per game.
