Day 1 Results

GOLDEN, Colo. -
Hunter Potrykus reset his Colorado School of Mines indoor pole vault record to lead a night of Oredigger personal bests in the field events on Day 1 at the Mines Pre-Conference.

Potrykus cleared 5.35m in the vault, surpassing his previous best of 5.30m and nearly eclipsing his all-conditions PR of 5.36m. Potrykus came in at 4.90m, cleared 5.05m, then gapped up to 5.35m and made it on his second try before attempting 5.45m; his performance takes him to sole possession of #3 on the national performance list.

He led a great evening for an all-Oredigger cast in the event as Aidan Bennett cleared a collegiate PR of 4.90m for second, Kai Miller and Shane Conley were over 4.75m (a personal best for Conley) for third and fourth, respectively, and Jackson Wray made the 4.60m bar for fifth.

Hannah Miller cleared a season-best 4.13m to win the women's vault, moving up from 3.98m to the 4.13m bar and making it on her third attempt before trying a would-be indoor record 4.18m. She improves upon her 4.11m mark set at the Mines Alumni Classic in December as the current #3 vaulter in NCAA Division II. Ava Kowalski and Avery Herbold were over 3.73m for second and third, Dale Thompson made 3.58m for fourth, and Madeline Obuchowski finished at 3.43m for fifth.

The Oredigger throwers had a great night as Abbi Gillespie became the #3 all-time performer at Mines in the weight throw, hitting a nearly one-meter collegiate best of 16.47m for third, and Jennifer Jarnagin's 15.66m also represented her personal best in sixth place. Kitt Ruper threw 14.99m for seventh. Davin Kiesby was third as Mines' sole men's competitor with a best of 15.75m.

Brody Welch won the men's shot put with his third attempt of 15.97m, matching his collegiate best, and Rupar was second in the women's shot put with a huge PR of 13.91m, well past her 13.35m set in January at UCCS.

In the women's long jump, Lexye Wood took third as the top D-II jumper hitting 5.74m, and Claire Kintzley marked a big all-venues personal best of 5.42m for sixth, surpassing 5.21m set last outdoor season. Prince Owusu-Ansah was ninth in the long jump at 6.51m, a nearly half-meter collegiate best.

Lisa Sutherland made her first collegiate pentathlon appearance in a solo effort, completing four events highlighted by a personal-best 5.32m long jump and a 1.51m high jump clearance.

Day 2 of the meet opens at 11 a.m. Saturday at Steinhauer Fieldhouse.
