#17/20 Mines Falls to Colorado Mesa in Grand Junction

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The #17/20-ranked Colorado School of Mines Women's Basketball team dropped a 74-47 contest at Colorado Mesa on Friday night.

In the loss, Ashley Steffeck led the Orediggers with 15 points, six steals, five rebounds, and two assists. Loralee Stock added 12 points in just 17 minutes of action. Mines (19-5, 14-4 RMAC) was limited to 25-percent shooting from the floor. Colorado Mesa (19-5, 13-4 RMAC) owned a 43-27 edge on the boards while shooting 50 percent on the night. The Orediggers' found a bright spot in 17-of-18 free-throw shooting. They also committed just nine turnovers compared to 13 by the Mavericks. However, two three-pointers for the visitors and nine for the home team proved too much.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Mines fell behind early, facing a 7-2 margin after less than two minutes of play. Then, a 7-0 Oredigger run forced a Colorado Mesa timeout. After that, the Mavericks went on a 21-2 run spanning over seven minutes of game action. The home team extended its lead out to 22 points during the second quarter, but Mines produced a 7-0 run to make it 39-26 by halftime. At the end of the day, the Orediggers could not get their offense going. They were held to one field goal in the fourth quarter, and CMU won the final period, 19-12.
