COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference announced its weekly award winners for men's basketball Monday afternoon and for the second time this season, Colorado School of Mines guard
Majok Deng has been named Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
This marks the fourth weekly honor awarded to an Oredigger this season, as Deng becomes the first Mines player to earn repeat honors this season, previously earning Offensive weekly accolades for the first time back January 26.
The grad transfer made Mines history Saturday night in a 74-56 win on the road at Chadron state, becoming just the sixth player in program history and first since the 2004-05 season with a 40-point performance as he went for 42 against the Eagles on 12-20 shooting including 5-8 from downtown and posting a perfect night at the free throw line going 13-13. He also added four rebounds and an assist in his 31 minutes while playing some of his best defense of the season and leading an effort that held CSC to just 29.3% (17-58) shooting for the night and 11.8% (2-17) from three-point range. Deng also became the first Oredigger since Gokul Natesan in the 2015-16 season to score 30 or more points in a game multiple times, having dropped 31 in his second game of the season while scoring the sixth-most points in a game all-time.
Mines closes out their road schedule Monday evening against Colorado Christian at 5:30 p.m. in a game from Friday that was postponed because of a shattered backboard in pregame warmups before wrapping up the regular season at Lockridge Arena Friday and Saturday against Adams State and #3/3 Fort Lewis at 7:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. respectively.
