NABC Division II All-District Teams
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Monday morning the National Association of Basketball Coaches released its list of All-District Teams for Division II and following a standout debut season in Golden, Colorado School of Mines redshirt senior guard
Majok Deng saw himself named Second Team All-District in the South Central Region.
Deng becomes the third Oredigger in the last two seasons to earn Second Team honors, joining
Brendan Sullivan and
Adam Thistlewood last season. Larry Wise of West Texas A&M, Cameron Kahn of Dallas Baptist, Tiras Morton from Texas A&M International along with Fort Lewis' Obi Agbim and Colorado Mesa's Trevor Baskin were the five First Team selections while Deng was joined on the Second Team by CMU's Mac Riniker and Black Hills State's Matthew Ragsdale along with Sean Elkinton of St. Edward's and Keyshawn Embery-Simpson of Angelo State. WTAMU's Tom Brown was named District Coach of the Year.
Already a Second Team All-Region honoree by the D2CCA, Deng also garnered First Team All-RMAC honors and a spot on the RMAC All-Tournament Team. During the regular season he was twice named the league's Offensive Player of the Week and landed a spot on the Small College Basketball Hall of Fame Classic All-Tournament Team to begin the season.
The graduate transfer from Pepperdine started all 33 games this season, averaging 24.8 minutes per night, and led the team in scoring at a rate of 17.2 PPG while shooting .441 from the floor, .436 from three and .840 at the free throw line. Deng also averaged 3.4 rebounds per game with 26 assists, 14 steals and four blocks. He scored in double figures in 27 games this season, scoring 20 or more 10 times and becoming the first player in the last nine seasons with multiple 30-point showings and first player in 20 years to score 40 or more points in game, doing so against Chadron State on February 24. He lead the RMAC in three-point percentage, was second in the league in three-point field goals and was seventh in the conference in scoring average.
Mines went 24-9 and 17-5 in RMAC play in 2024, finishing third in the conference and advancing to the RMAC semifinals before making their 13th appearance in the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Championship as the fifth seed in the South Central Region.
