Each team posted five fielding errors. There were a combined seven defensive miscues in the second game alone. The Oredigger pitching staff totaled 15 strikeouts compared to six walks in 14.0 innings of work. The Beavers fanned 11 and gave out seven free passes. Mines saw its five-game win streak come to an end while MSU tallied its second victory in the last three games.
GAME ONE: Mines 3, Minot State 2
After Saturday's 27-6 slugfest between the Orediggers and Beavers, Tuesday's opener saw runs come at a premium. A single from Andrews and a Minot State error provided Mines a 2-0 lead after the first inning. The Beavers tied the game by scoring one in the second and another in the fourth. In the home half of the fifth frame, Bilter belted a one-out double that put Folsom on third. A balk by the MSU pitcher made Folsom the go-ahead run. With the lead in hand, Bakovich returned to the mound and retired the Beavers in order in the sixth. He shrugged off two hits in the seventh to close out the win.
GAME TWO: Minot State 15, Mines 6
Things started swimmingly for the home team with the Orediggers grinding their way to a 5-2 lead through three innings. Another Beaver balk scored the first one. Folsom doubled in Woolwine to make it 2-0. Then, singles from Humphreys and
Wayne Moeck plated Pina and Bilter. Hsue sailed a sacrifice fly to drive in Moeck and give Mines the 5-2 advantage. A single and a double helped Minot State score single runs in second and third innings. However, the wheels fell off the wagon in the top of the fourth frame when back-to-back home runs started a seven-run outburst for the Beavers. They scored three more in the fifth, one in the sixth, and two in the seventh. It proved too much for the Orediggers to overcome. The home team was held hitless and scoreless in the fourth and fifth innings before Humphreys scored in the sixth for the final tally.
