AZUSA, Calif. - Riley McGrath broke the second-oldest record on the Colorado School of Mines women's track & field books as she ran the 1,500m at the Bryan Clay Invitational in California on Saturday.
McGrath ran an NCAA-provisional 4:26.31, edging out the long-standing record of 4:26.93 set by RMAC Hall of Famer Heather Beresford in 2006. McGrath was already 10th on the national performance list heading into the weekend and took more than a second off her altitude-converted time run last weekend in Boulder. Her performance closed out a spectacular Bryan Clay Invite for the Orediggers' distance runners that included a pair of new program records (along with
Zoe Baker's 5,000m run late Friday night), multiple NCAA top-15 times, and 17 new or improved entries to the program's all-time top-10 records.
Meanwhile in Grand Junction, Mines' throwers got the Maverick Invite #2 started ahead of the main meet on Sunday. In the men's hammer throw,
Davin Kiesby's best attempt of 53.16m was good for fourth while
Brody Welch threw 48.97m for fifth and
Hayden Swim came in ninth at 44.41m. The discus was led by
Franklin Rambo, who was fifth at 41.07m, with
Cade Whish sixth at a personal-best 40.79m and Swim 12th at 37.08m.
The Orediggers continue the Maverick Invite #2 on Sunday starting at 9 a.m.
