BOULDER, Colo. - Colorado School of Mines started off a two-meet weekend with its first outing, taking part in the Colorado Invitational on a warm and sunny Friday in Boulder.

Mines' throwers had a great day highlighted by Franklin Rambo's massive PR in the javelin to place third overall, throwing 53.96m on his fifth attempt. That vaults the freshman into third place all-time on the Mines top-10 list with the Orediggers' best javelin performance since 2015. Kitt Rupar won the women's shot put against a mostly-Division I field with her new outdoor best of 13.89m, set on her final attempt. She also placed ninth as the only D-II thrower in the hammer, marking a best of 49.85m.

Everett Delate was Mines' only sprinter in action on Friday, running 14.00 flat to improve his season 110m hurdles performance and put him just outside the national top 10.

The distance performances were highlighted by Riley McGrath, Zoe Baker, and Grace Strongman in the 1,500m as McGrath and Baker set Mines all-time top-10 performances in 4:33.95 (second place and eighth all-time at Mines) and 4:34.10 (third place and ninth all-time), respectively, and Strongman ran a 4:37.89 for fifth. Josie Mejia ran 4:56.77 for 17th. Mines' morning started with the 3,000m as Callen Nash (10:49.49) was eighth and Ella Kenly (11:20.96) 10th. Andrea O'Malley made his 3,000m steeplechase debut in a time of 9:55.35, finishing fourth overall. In the women's 800m, Imani Fernandez-Gorbea ran 2:17.56 for fifth place, with McGrath 10th in 2:19.03.

The pole vault took place indoors due to breezy afternoon conditions as Mines' Hannah Miller and Hunter Potrykus swept the victories. Miller cleared 4.14m and had three good attempts at a would-be RMAC-record 4.30m to top the women's competition, with Avery Herbold's season-best 3.99m good for second and Ava Kowalski third after setting her all-venues personal-best of 3.84m. Dale Thompson cleared 3.69m for fifth, and Madeline Obuchowski was 13th at 3.39m.

Potrykus easily won the men's competition with a best of 5.03m, and immediately ramped up to another would-be record attempt of 5.40m before bowing out. Noah Kelly's 4.88m tied for second, Aidan Bennett and Kai Miller each were over 4.73m for fourth and sixth, respectively, and Shane Conley was eighth at the same height as he set an outdoor PR. Jackson Wray was 11th at 4.43m.

Mines will next head across the Rockies for the Maverick Invite & Multi in Grand Junction on Sunday and Monday.
