Lisa Sutherland and
Avery Wright wrapped up their first heptathlons of the season Monday at the Maverick Invite & Multi, each hitting event personal-bests.
Sutherland set her PR in the long jump at 5.39m with Wright marking 5.29m, while in the javelin, it was Wright with a personal-best throw of 35.05m and Sutherland, making her collegiate debut in the discipline, hitting 29.06m. For Wright, it ranks as the #3 all-time performance at Mines.
Both withdrew before the 800m and neither received a complete heptathlon score. On Sunday, Wright ran 14.91 in the 100m hurdles and had marks of 1.55m in the high jump and 11.65m in the shot put; Sutherland went 15.17 in the hurdles, 1.55m in the high jump, and 9.87m in the shot.
The Orediggers will return to Grand Junction next weekend for the Maverick Invite #2, while also participating in the Bryan Clay Invite in California on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
