AZUSA, Calif. - Avery Wright got the weekend started for Colorado School of Mines track & field, competing in the first four events of the heptathlon at Azusa Pacific's Franson Last Chance and coming away with a pair of personal bests.

Through four events, Wright has 3,026 points to stand fourth overall. She ran her best 100m hurdles since March to start the day, clocking 14.89 seconds, then cleared 1.46m in the high jump. Big points came in the shot put where Wright threw a personal-best and competition-best 12.63m - the new #7 all-time Mines performance - to score 703 points, but she saved her best for last, running 24.97 in the 200m dash to score 890 points. That time makes her only the second Oredigger, and first since 2009, to run a sub-25 second 200m.

Wright is 126 points ahead of her first day score at the RMAC Championships last month, when she won with a program-record 4,931 points.

Wright will finish the heptathlon Friday starting at 3 p.m. PT, with Everett Delate also in action for the Orediggers in the 110m hurdle prelims at the same time.
