2024 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Baseball Teams
GOLDEN, Colo. – The Colorado School of Mines Baseball team had five representatives on the College Sports Communicators' (CSC) Academic All-District team released Tuesday morning.
Â
Jackson Bakovich,
Luke Folsom,
Canon Humphreys,
Marcus Lee, and
Wayne Moeck all earned recognition for their combined work in the classroom and on the diamond. It marks the third CSC Academic All-District nod of Folsom's career and the first ever for Bakovich, Humphreys, Lee, and Moeck. Folsom and Lee also advanced to the ballot for CSC Academic All-America. Criteria for the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District teams require honorees to be sophomores or above with a 3.5 or greater cumulative grade-point average (GPA) while meeting minimum participation percentages in games played or games started.
Â
Bakovich brings home the academic accolade after earning a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and a master's degree in computer science, both from Mines. He put together identical GPAs of 3.92 between his undergraduate and graduate programs. On the mound, the Oredigger relief pitcher was 7-5 with a 6.24 ERA and one save in 18 appearances out of the bullpen. He struck out 43 batters and walked 11 across 49.0 innings of work.
Â
Folsom's third academic all-district honor from the CSC follows an all-American campaign and the completion of a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. The recent Mines graduate touted a 3.73 GPA while playing as a utility man for the Orediggers. On the mound, he was 6-1 with a 4.87 ERA in 11 starts. The Littleton, Colo., native struck out 58 batters and walked 16 in 64.2 innings including two complete games. At the plate, as a designated hitter and third baseman, Folsom hit .365 with 46 runs on 62 hits including 17 doubles and 11 home runs with 52 RBI. He was named CSC Academic All-District in 2022 and 2023 and was voted CSC First-Team Academic All-America in 2022.
Â
Humphreys' inaugural CSC Academic All-District nod comes in his first year as an Oredigger. Mines' starting shortstop put together a 3.88 GPA in the mechanical engineering program. On the field, Humphreys batted .347 and scored 33 runs on 60 hits which included 11 doubles, two triples and three home runs on the way to 28 RBI. All of this followed two years playing at Clark College in Vancouver, Wash.
Â
Lee earned CSC Academic All-District after his final collegiate season. The Oredigger closer earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering with a 3.50 GPA before adding a master's degree in engineering & technology management with a 3.62 GPA to his resume. As Mines' backend specialist in 2024, Lee posted three saves and went 3-2 in 14 appearances. He helped with one shutout and struck out 31 batters compared to 17 walks on the way to a 4.03 ERA.
Â
Moeck's first appointment to the prestigious academic squad came in his fourth season with Mines baseball. In May, he completed a bachelor's degree in civil engineering while boasting a 3.97 GPA. On the field, in his first campaign back from injury, the redshirt junior scored 29 runs on 22 hits including eight doubles and three home runs with 22 RBI. He also walked 24 times and was hit eight times with 11 stolen bases.
Â
Mines closed its season last month at the 2024 RMAC Baseball Tournament, eventually falling to Regis – one game shy of Championship Saturday. The CSC Academic All-America teams will be released later this month and announced at
