COLUMBINE VALLEY, Colo. - Colorado School of Mines golfer Lukas Taggart has qualified for the 124th U.S. Amateur, winning co-medalist honors in the qualifier at Columbine Country Club on July 19.

The U.S. Amateur is slated to be played Aug. 12-18 at Hazeltine in Chaska, Minn., a frequent host of majors and the Ryder Cup. The tournament will have two opening rounds of stroke play, then four rounds of knockout match play before a 36-hole championship match. The U.S. Amateur will be televised on Peacock and Golf Channel starting with the Round of 64 on Aug. 14.

Taggart, who had teammate Max Lange as his caddy, shared medalist honors with United Arab Emirates national Rayan Ahmed with a three-under 69 to be one of six qualifiers from the Columbine tournament. Taggart had to rally from being even par through 10, going three-under in his final seven holes to take the lead. Taggart birdied three of the course's four par-fives on the day including going back-to-back on 12 and 13 to start his charge.

Named an Academic All-American earlier this week, Taggart earned First-Team All-RMAC and First-Team Academic All-RMAC honors shooting a team-leading 71.72 in 2023-24. The Nevada native ended the season ranked #69 in Division II after notching four top-10s and three top-5s. He qualified for the NCAA West/South Central Regional, and was par or better 21 times in 32 rounds. He is a rising junior at Mines majoring in mechanical engineering.
