Campos & Harman Lead Mines To Win Over Lubbock Christian

GOLDEN, Colo. – After opening the 2024 season with two wins out west, the #6 Colorado School of Mines women's soccer team took the field at Stermole Stadium for the first time in 2024 under the lights Thursday against first-time foe Lubbock Christian. Despite coming up empty in the first half, the Orediggers (3-0-0) pulled away in the second half thanks once more to the duo of Bella Campos and Ava Harman while putting up a season-high shot total as a group in a 2-0 win over the Lady Chaps (1-1-1).

The shots came early and often for the Orediggers they put up nine attempts in the opening 22 minutes with shots on target thanks to Cloey Seltzer, Laura Butler and Campos. A shot from Lauren Clingman in the 21st minute just went wide of the right post by a matter of inches while Ellise Putnam rattled the frame in the 27th minute.

Gaby Guerrero and Katie Koehler both got in on the action as did plenty of others as the shots and near-misses mounted as the half wore on. The final shot of the period ended up being the first of the night on goal for LCU as Avery Jennings took aim, but the sure-handed Sadie Wolf made the stop as 45 minutes came and went with no change on the scoreboard despite 14 first half shot attempts by Mines.

Allie Lundgren subbed in and took over between the pipes for the second half and went to work right away against Mia Chambliss in the 48th minute, making her first regular season appearance since September 23, 2022, and fourth career appearance.

A flurry of shots from Campos, McDermott and Sam Forde continued to apply pressure on the defense as the match passed the 55-minute mark, and shortly after in the 59th minute, that pressure became too much for the Lady Chaps to withstand any further. Campos dribbled the ball inside the penalty area before kicking it back out to Harman just outside the arc from about 24 yards out where she fired a one-timer off her right foot and by the hands Emma Wright for the first goal of the night.

Goal number two wasn't far behind as Campos was taken down hard inside the box by Casey Storer and awarded a penalty kick. The sophomore easily converted the try, going left side with Wright guessing the other way as the score doubled to 2-0 in the 63rd minute.

Butler and Putnam did their best to make it a three-goal game after play resumed, but each shot they took found the hands of Wright.

With time winding down Mines went to their bench to bring in some fresh legs for the home stretch and after Lundgren posted her second save against Best in the 89th minute, one final shot by Jordan Bowermaster all but concluded the festivities with the Orediggers finding the win column with a 3-0 victory.
