United Soccer Coaches Week 3 Top 25 Poll
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The third regular season rankings from the United Soccer Coaches Association were released on Tuesday and with non-conference action in the rearview mirror, the Colorado School of Mines women's soccer team checked in this week once again at #3 on the national stage.
The Orediggers (6-0-0) kept the good time rolling over the weekend in the Evergreen State, making light work of Saint Martin's and Western Washington by scores of 4-0 and 2-0.
Afton Rasco stole the show Friday against the Saints, scoring twice and assisting twice for six points while
Reese McDermott added an assist and two goals of her own 29 seconds apart in the late going. Sunday against the Vikings,
Ava Harman's header was good enough to be the winner just before the half thanks to McDermott and
Laura Butler before the former added an insurance goal in the final minutes.
Allie Lundgren and the defense posted two more shutouts and allowed just 14 total shots in 180 minutes of action.
The top two in the poll remained the same with Grand Valley State and Gannon ahead of Mines, while Columbus State and Cal Poly Pomona moved into the top five this week from sixth and seventh last week. Colorado Mesa dropped out of the rankings this week but still earned votes, while MSU Denver found themselves on some ballots for the first time this season.
Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play opens this weekend for the Orediggers starting Friday night at 6 p.m. at Stermole Stadium against defending RMAC champions UCCS followed by a Sunday matinee match against CSU Pueblo at 1 p.m.
