BOULDER, Colo. - Personal bests were the order of the day as Colorado School of Mines' throwers got the weekend started at the Potts Invitational at Colorado on Friday.
In the men's events,
Holden Murphy came very close to the Mines weight throw record with his season-best 19.39m toss, improving his mark from the Mines Alumni Classic by 37 centimeters with the second-best throw in program history, trailing only Jack Root's 19.47m mark from 2019. That earned Murphy second in the event. In the shot put,
Franklin Rambo threw 16.18m for second place, his collegiate best and first time over 16 meters.
Kitt Rupar won the women's shot put with a 14.20m heave, her second time over 14 meters this indoor season, and both
Jennifer Jarnagin and
Abbi Gillespie set personal-bests in the weight throw to place third and fourth, respectively, in that event. Jarnagin became the third Oredigger to cross 17 meters, hitting 17.03m to become the #3 all-time performer at Mines with a half-meter PR, while Gillespie improved her PR by 14 centimeters to record 16.76m.
On Saturday, Mines' sprinters will take center stage with a large group of 400m entrants along with 200m and 800m runs on the slate in Boulder. Saturday's track program starts at 11 a.m.
