Murphy's Record Leads Strong Day At UCCS

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.
- Colorado School of Mines produced strong performances in multiple events as they competed at the Colorado Running Company UCCS Invite on Saturday.

Holden Murphy reset his program weight throw record among multiple collegiate bests for the Orediggers, who won seven events overall including both the men's and women's 4x400 relays.

MEN'S MEET
On the track, a week after resetting his program record in his season debut, Everett Delate had another strong 60m hurdles performance, clocking his third-fastest career time of 7.82 in prelims on the way to a 7.93-second victory in the final. Three Orediggers made the final as Coulton Chan finished third in a season-best 8.28 and Nick Stade was seventh in 8.83 (8.48 in prelims); Jake Lafore was 12th in 8.66.

Jonah Fallon continued his strong season with a win in the 400m dash, running 48.92 to lead a large group of Orediggers that included Liam Currie (5th, 50.14), Logan Meade (7th, 50.91), Elijah Quinby (8th, 51.20), Ollie Sehr (10th, 51.34), Mark Leoni (11th, 51.83), Austin Schmidt (16th, 52.36), and Waylon Weeks (22nd, 54.64). Mines put three freshmen in the top seven of the men's 200m led by Leoni's second-place 23.22, with Sehr fifth in 23.48 and Schmidt seventh in 23.51 as Weeks closed 25th in 24.51. Jathan Busby ran 7.00 flat for sixth in the 60m dash final, moving to #6 on the Mines all-time list, and Tegan Daughters was 12th in a time of 7.09 seconds. Owen Schneider led the Orediggers in the 800m with a third-place 1:57.49, and Aiden Bram clocked 2:04.04 for 11th.

The men's 4x400 relay of Currie, Tim Thompson, Meade, and Fallon ran 3:21.41 to win over UCCS, with the "B" relay of Daughters, Busby, Quinby, and Bram fifth in 3:29.37 and the "C" squad of Leoni, Schneider, Sehr, and Schmidt a spot back in 3:29.45. 

Murphy broke the program weight throw record for a second consecutive week to highlight the field performances, sending his fourth attempt 19.69m to improve on his 19.48m mark from the Colorado Classic and winning the event. Franklin Rambo was 12th at 14.58m with Keaton Reiman 18th with a 12.40m throw. Brody Welch was fourth in the shot put with a 15.05m first throw, with Hayden Swim marking 14.01m for ninth, Keaton Reiman finishing 14th at 12.64m, Hafner 18th at 12.26m, Stade 21st at 11.34m, and Lafore 24th at 10.66m.

Noah Kelly was runner-up in the pole vault with an NCAA-provisional 4.81m bar, the only Oredigger to record a height. Both Vaughn Hafner and Nick Stade cleared 1.84m for eighth in the high jump. 

WOMEN'S MEET
Strong field results led the Oredigger women's meet with a pair of event wins and multiple personal bests. Abbi Gillespie led Mines in the thrower's circle with a massive personal best in the weight throw, marking an NCAA-provisional and RMAC-leading 17.48m to place second in the event. Gillespie became the fourth thrower in program history to surpass 17 meters as she moved to second on the all-time performers list. Jennifer Jarnagin took fifth in the weight throw at 16.75m with Kitt Rupar sixth at 16.25 and Audrey Ott ninth at 14.66m. Rupar would go on to win the shot put with her 14.16m fourth throw; Jarnagin placed 12th at 10.37m and Lisa Sutherland marked 10.22m for 13th with Gillespie 21st on 8.33m. 

Hayley Rayburn won the women's pole vault with an impressive 4.22m clearance, tied for the third-highest indoor bar in program history, while Dale Thompson produced a 3.82m day for third; both are NCAA provisional marks. Ava Kowalski was sixth and Taylor Hindman ninth, both at 3.57m, and Madeline Obuchowski finished 10th over 3.42m with Arabella Chen 12th (3.27m), Maddie Kelly 14th (3.12m), and Lauren Kidney 16th (2.97m). 

In the long jump, Claire Kintzley produced a career-best 5.61m for second in the event, moving to fourth on the Mines all-time performers list with the result. 

The women's 4x400 relay highlighted their day on the track with a victory as Maya Evans, Avary Catchings, Aani Hardesty, and Allison Comer combined for a 3:55.26 time. Comer led a strong 400m showing for Mines with her second-place 58.30 as Orediggers filled three of the top five spots; Hardesty was third in 58.54 and Evans fifth in 59.79. Evans was also 22nd in the 60m dash in 8.12 seconds. Catchings took third in the 800m with a 2:17.89 time, while in the 60m hurdles, Lisa Sutherland made finals and was fifth in 9.21 after clocking 9.06 in prelims. Comer ran the same prelim time but skipped the final, with Hardesty running ninth overall in 9.65.
