This past weekend the Colorado School of Mines Club Ice Hockey Team played the Colorado College (CC) Tigers. On Friday the Orediggers were looking like shadows of themselves and were unable to net a single goal until the 2nd period when
Jordan Larese finally broke the deadlock. Into the 3rd period, it was back and forth with CC scoring to tie it,
Jean Richard Long responding to give Mines the lead, and then
Jordan Larese with another goal to extend it. With minutes left in the game, the Orediggers went on the penalty kill and scored three shorthanded goals,
Ripken Renner,
Jordan Larese, and
Ben Lombardi as the goal scorers.
Jordan Larese completed his hat trick and the Orediggers won 6-2.
Saturday's game was a different story, with Mines
Ben Lombardi scoring a powerplay goal early in the first period and
Jordan Larese quickly after. Not even a minute into the second period
Jordan Larese had another one, quickly followed by
Ben Lombardi, and another two goals from
Jordan Larese to give him 4 goals before the 40-minute mark.
Emilio Rodriguez finished off the second period right off the faceoff to put Mines up 7-1. It was wrapped up from there with the Orediggers scoring 4 more goals in the third period, one more for
Emilio Rodriguez, one for
Nathan Cote,
Ripken Renner, and the completed hat trick for
Ben Lombardi. Mines was happy with their 11-1 win and looks to keep their momentum into their Airforce series in February after a short break.
