Day 1 Results

GOLDEN, Colo. - Hayley Rayburn broke the RMAC pole vault record to highlight the first day of the Mines Winter Classic & Multi at Steinhauer Fieldhouse.

The Orediggers turned in numerous personal bests on Friday, and the men's distance medley relay ran a national-leading time to win that event during the evening track session.

WOMEN'S MEET
Rayburn closed out Friday with a show on the pole vault runway, clearing 4.40m to reset her RMAC indoor record and also gain the conference's all-seasons record that had been held by the Orediggers' Hannah Miller at 4.30m. Rayburn went over that mark twice, opening at 4.13m without a miss and then taking out 4.33m before 4.40m on her second attempt. She had three good attempts at 4.50m, as well. Rayburn is the fourth woman in NCAA Division II history to reach 4.40m and ranks #2 nationally this season.

Personal bests were the order of the night in the women's pole vault as Ava Kowalski, Dale Thompson, and Taylor Hindman all cleared 3.73m to place second through fourth (a PR for Hindman), while Arabella Chen's 3.43m also marked her collegiate best for fifth. Maddie Kelly and Madeline Obuchowski got over 3.28m (Kelly's PR), and Lauren Kidney was eighth at a personal-best 3.13m.

Kitt Rupar's opening effort of 14.40m held up to win the women's shot put, with Jennifer Jarnagin fourth on 11.94m, Abbi Gillespie hitting a two-meter personal-best of 10.38m for sixth, and Audrey Ott a spot behind at 10.21m. Both Avery Wright and Lisa Sutherland were near their personal bests as Wright took third in the women's long jump with a third leap of 5.51m, and Sutherland was fifth on an opening try of 5.48m.

On the track, Wright and Allison Comer went 1-2 in the 60m hurdles, running the second- and fourth-fastest times in program history at 8.63 and 8.89 seconds, respectively, while Aani Hardesty closed fifth in a season-best 9.30. In the evening session, Callen Nash and Josie Mejia ran the 5,000m paced by former Oredigger all-American Molly Maksin, and Nash crossed the line first in a personal-best 18:18.33 with Mejia second at 18:34.66.

MEN'S MEET
Mines put together national-leading and NCAA-provisional 10:03.87 at altitude in the distance medley relay, with Brock Drengenberg, Elijah Quinby, Tim Thompson, and Alberto Campa on the baton. The time converts to a sea-level 9:40.47 which has been comfortably in the national top five in each of the past few seasons and is currently the fastest in NCAA D-II.

In the sprints, Jathan Busby and Tegan Daughters both ran sub-7.00 personal-bests in the 60m dash as Busby won in 6.96 seconds, and Daughters was fifth in 7.04 after running 6.98 in qualifying. Everett Delate continued his strong season with the second-fastest 60m hurdles time in program history - and his fastest on the Steinhauer Fieldhouse track - to win at 7.81 seconds. Coulton Chan took second place as he ran a season-best 8.29.

Daniel Appleford won the men's 3,000m in 8:35.53, with Andreas O'Malley second in 8:41.24, Max Bonenberger third at 8:42.56, Braden Struhs fourth in 8:56.09, and Chandler Wilburn was seventh in 9:02.97 to close the night on the track.

Franklin Rambo moved to #3 all-time at Mines in the men's shot put, winning the event with a big fourth throw of 16.66m as Orediggers took the top four places. Holden Murphy was second at 16.13m, Keaton Reiman marked a career-best 14.46m for third, and Hayden Swim was fourth at 14.12m.

Three Oredigger men are through four events in the heptathlon with Nick Stade leading at 2,824 points followed by Vaughn Hafner (2,710) and Jake LaFore (1,490). Stade put together an impressive day going 7.07 in the 60m dash, 6.89m in the long jump, 10.33m in the shot put, and then 1.85m in the high jump. Hafner went 7.33 in the 60m, 5.70m in the long jump, then gained points with a strong 13.45m in the shot put and 1.91m in the high jump. LaFore ran a 7.34-second 60m and had a long jump of 5.50m before being hampered by an injury in his subsequent events.

The men's pole vault was dominated by Mines as Hunter Potrykus' 5.20m bar won the competition. Potrykus entered at 5.05m, cleared 5.20m, and then passed up to attempt a would-be RMAC-record 5.42m. Shane Conley matched his collegiate best clearing 4.75m to tie for second with Noah Kelly, and Tony Peonio's fifth-place 4.45m bar was the best of his young career.
