The Colorado School of Mines MD3 Ice Hockey team faced a challenging four-game weekend on the road, splitting contests against UMass Amherst and Central Maine Community College. The Orediggers showcased resilience, skill, and depth, producing standout performances from several players across the series.
Game 1: Mines 4 – UMass Amherst 3
Date: Friday, October 17, 2025
Location: Mullins Center
Colorado School of Mines opened the series with a thrilling 4–3 victory over UMass Amherst. Jordan Larese got the scoring started for Mines, converting a pass from Nicholas Malaniuk and Brady Sorrentino just 4:40 into the first period. Matthew Mansfield extended the lead at 7:09, assisted by Malaniuk and Henry Taliaferro.
Ripken Renner scored Mines' third goal in the second period, assisted by Nicholas Lombardi at 1:16. Brady Sorrentino capped the scoring in the third period with a power-play goal, assisted by Kellen Gormley and Nicholas Lombardi, securing the win.

Game 2: Mines 4 – Central Maine Community College 5
Date: Saturday, October 18, 2025
Location: Norway Savings Bank Arena
In a tightly contested matchup, Mines fell 5–4 to Central Maine Community College. The Orediggers trailed early after a first-period goal by CMCC, but quickly responded in the second period with a power-play goal by Nathan Cote, assisted by Jordan Larese and Brady Sorrentino.
Nicholas Lombardi scored the next goal for Mines at 13:49 in the second period, cutting CMCC's lead. Ripken Renner opened the third period with another power-play tally, and Scott Macdonald finished Mines' scoring with a power-play goal assisted by Sorrentino and Cote at 18:29. Despite their efforts, CMCC's late scoring edge gave them the 5–4 victory.

Mines rebounded in the series finale against CMCC with a 4–2 win. Nicholas Lombardi opened the scoring in the first period, assisted by Jordan Larese. Nicholas Malaniuk extended the lead early in the second period with help from Lombardi and Brady Sorrentino.
Scott Macdonald added two key third-period goals, giving Mines a comfortable lead. Lombardi closed out the scoring on a power-play goal, assisted by Sorrentino, cementing the 4–2 victory.

Game 4: Mines 1 – UMass Amherst 11

The final game of the stretch proved a tough outing as Mines fell 11–1 to UMass Amherst. After a long weekend the Orediggers were spent and out of energy. Goaltender Dylan Eldridge made 37 saves on 48 shots, and Mines lone goal was scored by Josh Fisher late in the third period
