It was another excellent week of competition for Mines Club Esports, as the Orediggers went 5–2 across all titles, with standout showings in League of Legends, Rocket League, Counter-Strike, and Overwatch.
The week began on Monday, October 13, where League of Legends Varsity extended their undefeated run with a commanding 2–0 victory over the University of Alberta. The match quickly became the Seth Fry and Colin Ngo show, as both players dominated their opponents — Seth posting 9/2/15 and 13/3/15 KDA lines, while Colin followed with 18/1/9 and 16/6/7. The duo accounted for over half of Mines' total kills in both games, fueling another flawless series win that moved Varsity to 4–0 on the season. Not to be overlooked, Alan Wang's Sion survived a 3-man dive at 1 HP before turning the play around for two kills — and still secured the cannon minion for good measure. The League of Legends Junior Varsity team dropped a hard-fought 0–2 to the University of Wisconsin, but kept the series competitive with a clutch Malphite flank by Aidan McIntyre in Game 2. JV now stands at 2–1 heading into their next matchup later this week.
On Tuesday, October 14, Rocket League Varsity looked sharp in a 3–0 sweep of the University of Redlands, improving to 2–3 and climbing toward playoff contention.
Counter-Strike Varsity continued its climb on Friday, October 17, securing a dominant 2–0 victory over the University of Hawai'i Mānoa. Behind Zaudan Wawhkyung ("WoodRank")'s consistent impact play, the Orediggers won Ancient 13–6 and Overpass 13–1. Zaudan earned MVP honors once again with clutch multi-kills and strong lurk play, highlighted by a clean 1v3 pistol round (clip). Other standout moments included Aaron Jackson ("tozosi") and Oliver Greener ("yag") turning a near-impossible 2v4 into a round win (clip) and Ryker Fish ("facepalm") pairing with yag for a smart 2v3 clutch (clip). Mines now improves to 2–3 on the season.
Overwatch Varsity matched Counter-Strike's energy, defeating the University of Hawai'i Mānoa 3–1 in an intense, high-energy battle. After dominant wins on the first two maps, the Orediggers stumbled on New Junk City before rallying to close out the series on Colosseo. HerKitten (Sam Mobley) led the charge with 24 eliminations in a 10-minute finale, while CookieDoge (Seth Fry) recorded 14 assists and key speed boosts on Antarctic Peninsula. DonkeyKong (Jake Cannon) and Majestic (Alex Eshelman) combined for 49 eliminations and 34 assists on King's Row, helping seal the series. Valorant Varsity faced a challenging matchup against the University of Alberta, falling 0–2 despite strong individual performances and several promising rounds.

Map 1: Corrode was neck-and-neck throughout, with both teams trading big rounds. In Round 15, Loophole388 (Diego) kept Mines alive with a triple-kill spraydown in mid (clip). Despite solid calling and fragging from the IGL idk (Noah), Mines struggled to find opening picks from their duelists, eventually dropping the map 11–13.

Map 2: Haven didn't go much better, ending 6–13 in Alberta's favor. This time, duelists FrameData (Jackson) and bs12 (Chris) found more success securing first bloods and making rounds competitive. One standout moment saw FrameData nearly clutching a round while fully blinded, finding a two-piece through strong spray control and crosshair placement — and maybe a bit of luck (clip).
While the 0–2 result was disappointing, the team feels confident the match was winnable and continues to work hard refining its map pool and coordination ahead of next week's matchup.
Meanwhile, Valorant Junior Varsity picked up a forfeit win over the University of Oregon, remaining undefeated at 5–0 on the season.
With multiple wins across nearly every title, Mines Club Esports continues to prove itself as one of the most consistent programs in collegiate competition. The Orediggers look to keep their momentum rolling heading into the final stretch of October play.
