Campos Leads #8 Orediggers To Comeback Win Over Griffins

GOLDEN, Colo. – The eighth-ranked Colorado School of Mines women's soccer team remained unbeaten at Stermole Stadium in 2025 thanks to a come from behind 2-1 win over Westminster Sunday afternoon. After spotting the Griffins (6-2-5, 3-2-4) the early lead, Bella Campos helped lead the Orediggers (10-2-2, 7-1-1) back first by tying the match before taking the lead on a penalty kick before the defense handled things to maintain the lead in the second half.

The first four shots of the day came from the Orediggers including a shot on frame by Jolie Jiricek in the eighth minute that was saved by reigning RMAC Goalkeeper of the Week MacKenzie Marin, but it was Westminster who scored first as they countered the other way to take the early lead. After the save by Marin, WU played the ball ahead to midfield were Sage Stott played it ahead to leading scorer Addie McCallister. McCallister had a step against the defense and pulled up for a shot from the top of the six against Allie Lundgren. Lundgren came off her line to challenge with no luck as the shot tucked inside the near post for the opening goal of the day.

Roughly nine minutes later, the next shot of the match saw the Orediggers level the score thanks to Campos on perhaps one of the best scoring sequences of the season. With the Griffins playing deep in their own end, Campos stole the ball away on the far side of the field before chipping back out to Gaby Guerrero. Guerrero played a touch back toward the center of the field for Afton Rasco, who took a couple of dribbles before slipping a pass through three defenders back to Campos standing atop the box as she gathered and turned, taking a few touches before shooting back across goal to the near post to draw level at 1-1.

With momentum now on their side, Mines pressed their attack looking to take the lead. Natalie Rouse missed high with header off a corner kick and Afton Rasco missed just outside the near post, but in the 40th minute it was Campos again finding the net. Following a Mines corner kick, the Orediggers retained possession and were looking to get something going as Campos ended up with the ball charging across the center of the pitch just inside the 18. Emma Whitely tried to defend against her, but did so a little too aggressively as she knocked Campos to the deck and was whistled for the penalty on the foul. Stepping to the spot, Campos took aim and while Marin guessed correctly going to the back post and got an initial piece of the shot, she couldn't hang on as the ball spun away back to the near post and in to put Mines ahead 2-1 heading into the break.

In the second half it was all Westminster as they outshot Mines 9-1 over the final 45 minutes looking to net their own equalizer. The Orediggers played on the defensive most of the period with several players either playing out of position or having to shift around after several players went down late in the first half and did not return. A revamped backline anchored by Rouse and Jiricek and bolstered by Gabriela Rodríguez and the tandem of Izzy Sontheimer and Avery Kelley aided Lundgren in keeping the Griffins off the board in the final frame to post the 2-1 result.
