The Colorado School of Mines Club Esports program continued its strong fall season this past week, earning victories in four of six contests across multiple competitive titles. With dominant League of Legends performances and clutch plays across the board, the Orediggers look primed for playoff contention as the regular season nears its end.
League of Legends Varsity stayed perfect on the season, improving to 5–0 (10–0 in games) with a convincing 2–0 win over Chapman University. Led by standout jungler @wiz (Jonah Oliver), Mines controlled nearly every objective across both games — securing 13 of 14 total dragons, grubs, heralds, atakhans, and barons. Jonah's stellar Nidalee performance in Game 1 (14/4/8) demonstrated sharp mechanics and map control, while his Game 2 Rek'Sai play was the deciding factor in the sweep. The highlight of the night came from his three-man flash knock-up on Rek'Sai, setting up the full team wipe and game-ending push. Watch the highlight here.
League of Legends Junior Varsity also came away victorious, defeating Virginia Commonwealth University 2–0 in one of their most impressive series to date. Playing under challenging conditions, the entire team competed from laptops in separate locations — and even without their jungler, who was replaced by an emergency sub. Despite these hurdles, @Sku1ker (Aidan McIntyre) proved unstoppable on Sion, leading a comeback win in Game 1 and finishing as MVP after dealing and tanking the most damage in the match. In Game 2, @napa1m (Mason Ngo)'s lack of a mouse prompted a creative Yuumi pick, which allowed @Kayle808 (Nathan Okimoto) to explode for 18 kills and dominate team fights. Mines' adaptability and composure paid off with a clean sweep. Watch the highlights: Clip 1 | Clip 2 | Clip 3.
Rainbow Six Siege Varsity extended its undefeated streak to 5–0, as the team claimed another win against Lawrence Technological University due to forfeit. Strong communication and consistent teamwork continue to be the foundation of their success.
Rocket League Varsity also earned a forfeit victory against the University of British Columbia Okanagan, improving to 3–3 and positioning themselves in the middle of their division standings with a clear path toward playoffs.
Overwatch Varsity fought hard in a tough matchup against San Jose State University, ultimately falling 0–3. Despite the loss, the match featured several entertaining moments — including a humorous Lifeweaver vs. Lifeweaver duel on Winter King's Row that kept both sides' spirits high. The highlight of the night came on Havana, where DonkeyKong (Jake Cannon) landed an incredible five-hammer Torbjörn multi-kill, showing his mechanical skill and timing once again. Watch the weekly highlight reel. Mines now turns its focus to next Wednesday's match (Oct. 29 at 8:40 p.m.), which will decide playoff qualification.
Counter-Strike Varsity battled the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in a close three-map series, ultimately falling 1–2. After taking Mirage 13–8, Mines lost momentum on Ancient (7–13) and dropped Dust 2 (2–13). Despite the loss, several clutch plays stood out: Aaron Jackson (tozosi) opened the series with a crisp 3k pistol round (clip), Zaudan Wawhkyung (WoodRank) hit two clean Deagle headshots to turn an eco round into a win (clip), and Ezra Rigler (pneumo) closed out a tense 1v2 clutch with only 25 HP left (clip).
